Hi,

I've a few cracks in, and several small, round chunks about to fall out of, my plaster walls and ceilings. I want to fix them without replastering and repainting the entire wall, ceiling or room. Any top tips? My house is wall to ceiling white matt.

I'd also welcome any explanations for the small, round chunks. They are about the size of a 50p coin and mostly appear on the ceiling very near the join with the wall. Weirdly none have fallen out as yet. Hard to describe but it looks like someone has got a teaspoon and scooped out the plaster, then stick it back in again (I've quizzed my wife and she denies doing this, so we can rule this out as the explanation).

Thanks,

Chillaxed

It is prob due to the ceiling flexing and the plaster popping off where the nails affix the plasterboard sheets above.

PVA the holes carefully, allow to dry, fill them with Polyfilla or similar, sand down (poss fill again), the wipe, PVA again, sand lightly and blend in with a brush using same paint.

Should work fine.

Pollyfilla is shit. Funnily enough you mix polyfiller, say 30/70. with plaster, and it is the bees knees. It suddenly is the best of both worlds, extending the curing time of the plaster, letting you fill deeper cracks without cracking or sinking, you can make quite a 'stiff' mix, and keeps the quality of plaster in trowling on (rather than the bloody tramlines you get with pollyfilla on its own - too many examples of botched DIY). Get it right first time with a decent float, trowl or other suitable tool, wetting down as necessary to smoooth out, as it is a b'stard to rub down, But only for mending plaster, not wood or anything else that flexes. The non branded stuff is just as good.

The quick setting pollyfilla in a tube is also great in doning fine repairs. Trouble is it dries in the tube too easily.

    • So have you cancelled your contract with InPost / Yodel now? If so, that's probably caused hundreds of parcels to be stuck in limbo, as they've said to me before that they can't redirect them to a different store. I have a parcel that was refused by you twice, the last time on 5/12, and since then there's been no updates, despite me calling them 3 times. They just say it's being investigated, but if they now can't physically deliver to you then that is obviously the issue. So much for shopping for Christmas presents early, looks like I'll never get them now.

I love the fact that you, Dave CPR, are so unaware of how another can be affected by something that does not personally affect yourself. Blissful ignorance. Lack of Empathy. Cold hearted.
