Wanted: someone to fix a damp problem

I'm not sure whether I need a builder, handyman or brick specialist?

Problem in an upstairs bedroom at the back of our house, which has stemmed from having work done a few years ago, render being removed from the brickwork, then patched up. Three years on, water is getting in through the render, whether it be due to cracks or just the render being done incorrectly I'm not sure.

Leading from this, we have a growing patch of damp under the window in our upstairs bedroom. The paint has flaked off, and due to all the rain this year the patch is getting bigger at a rapid rate.

We are looking for someone to fix the outside problem, then to sort out the patch inside, which I think will need the plaster taken out and redone. Redecorating not required, as we will have this done by another contractor.

Recommendations gratefully received, please, no self referrals.

Thanks

might be a bit late for you but I would recommend David Duggan 07943 804 075. He found and fixed a damp problem for us (& the damage the damp had done to our floor joists) at a reasonable price. I thought he was excellent and the quality of his & team's work high. Having had quite a few people round to discuss damp, he is of the 'all damp has a cause, identify the cause & fix that problem' school rather than the chemical damp treatment salesmen & so on. pm me if you have any questions.

    • Another recommendation for Niko. Great communication, top guy, and super reliable and skilled - all at a fair price. Takes a lot of care in what he does and talks you through everything.
    • Some foxes are very tame. The foxes that live near the electricity sub-station thing on the corner of Calton and Woodwarde will happily walk up to you/passed you. They are some of the best looking foxes around so clearly being well-fed - glorious coats and bushy tails but interested in humans and keen to engage/be fed rather than being scared.
    • Let’s not all get scared of the foxes now. Most likely explanation is protecting its den or association with food. We have foxes, and cats and they are no bother to each other. The fox will leave when the cats are out.
