So... you lot, a long time ago, on Forest Hill Road, there was a lovely bakery. It closed. And not so long ago there was a cafe called two trees that expanded into two trees lounge on a second site before it got converted into si mangia. These businesses closed because the rents were high and they didn't get the daily (and daytime) business from the locals to make it work. Chicken/egg/chicken...if you want local resources you need to support them. The businesses on the other hand need to identify what locals want. We go to Anatolia at least twice a month when they are open. We like it. Might be a bit cheesy for some people but it's loads cheaper than the Herne or Si Mangia. Point is, you won't get what you want by whinging about the lack of it. Support the local businesses rather than slagging them off - they'll listen and improve, I'm sure.

I'm sure you can appreciate everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I'm a strong believer that bad press is good press. How many here, after reading the "bad and slagging off" comments and then went off to the place to check it out for yourselves? Go on, be honest!

So... you lot. - Charmed, I'm sure

Support the local businesses rather than slagging them off - they'll listen and improve, I'm sure. - That's a passive agressive statement if ever I heard one.

You'll find that people want the place to work well. They don't want it to be a posh, gentrified parade of knickknack shops. They want good services and good prices. 'Slagging off' (such a playground phrase) doesn't come into it, Marge. By your logic, we should just carry on with shabbiness, poor customer service and be assured that things will get better. it doesn't work like that.

BTW, I have yet to receive that phone call from teh Coop area manager I wrote about a few days ago. Says a lot, really.

Marge, would you care to do something proactive (rather than traipse to and fro to shops that could do better in the vain hope your optimism will help them get better.) Nero

    • What is it that makes Waitrose so special! Admittedly I have shopped a couple of times in the Orpington and Beckenham one - sometimes buying food which I cannot get else where. Their 'basic range' is not bad. Price for price and quality - M & S.
    • Sometimes a shed or other installation has to have written approval from the freeholder i.e. Southwark, Southwark has (or did have) a Leaseholder Association.   Could also come under Anti Social Behaviour Unit.
    • Love Dulwich is great but has a large step in front. We have only been weekdays at Lunch time. Maria's next to Picture House is disabled friendly. Also can reserve table in advance. We did a Sunday lunch catch up with family - there were 8 of us.
    • Hi, Thinking about  going with some friends and was just wondering if folk might like to report back please. Most importantly sound level when busy & is it disabled friendly.  Thinking on a Sunday lunchtime but don’t want a busy busy environment or loud chatter - a couple of friends could not cope. Time can be flexible, if that helps - say 2 ish to avoid above.. Thanks…
