Moving company for leaving London - any ideas?

Hi all!

We're shortly moving to Lincoln (in the East Midlands) and are finding the cost of movers extortionate. We only have furniture to fill a one bed flat and are willing to pack/unpack everything ourselves. Any ideas or suggestions on how to cut down costs? Or does anyone know the cheapest company to use?

If you can't drive or don't want to rent a self-drive van as suggested, try Little Green Van & Man, they provided a very good, friendly service a few years back, cost was competitive at the time, ideal for smallish loads... https://lgvanman.com/

Thank you all for your help! We aren't in a position to do it ourselves I'm afraid, but that would definitely be a cheaper option. I'll check out Little Green Van and Man.

If you can pack yourself, take an inventory and/or pictures, and if you can trawl through Gumtree, there are some very reasonable prices out there.

Three years ago I moved house and I used VP Removals. Vitek and Peter were brilliant. Very careful, brought loads of bubble wrap for fragile items, friendly and did not charge much. I recommended them to a friend who was moving out of London and she was very positive about them too.

If cost is the main factor you could try NDR Removals or Mister Bee, both of which would be about ?450 for a 3.5t mwb Luton + 2 men. I'm moving soon and used a number of comparison sites, which is a good source if cost is the main factor for you, though in the end I went with a better-known name.

Also look at Ward Thomas as they have a partner that does national removals based on shipping containers that are delivered a few days later. Similar price to above.
