tomo
Does anyone know if you can take Vicks First Defence whilst breastfeeding? Leaflet says to consult with their healthcare professional. Thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/27140-vicks-first-defence-and-breastfeeding/ Share on other sites
bluesuperted
I would have thought not as it's likely to have decongestant properties and they can have an adverse effect on your milk supply. I'm not 100% sure and a quick google didn't say for definite thst it had decongestant in it but I know that things like lemsip are out for that reason (probably others too but the decongestant thing sticks in my mind re pregnancy and BF). tomo
Your right, anything with decongestants are out as it dries up your milk supply. Although avoiding all cold remedies when ill and looking after a poorly baby too makes life pretty miserable, hence wanting to avoid getting ill again! Not sure what the active ingredient in Vicks first defence is though.I've just asked my sister in law who's a nurse and breastfeeding counsellor who said that as it acts locally (ie- you don't inhale it)it should be fine. Undiscovered
I'd highly recommend Sterimar - switched to it 2 years ago when first pregnant, and not looked back. Safe for pregnant women, bfers and babies. Have found it just as effective. Good luck!
