Loft conversion advice please

Hello, I am planning a loft conversion and have had several quotes mostly from companies who provide the whole package of drawings through to completing the work. But I haven't ruled out getting an architect to draw up the plans and then go to tender to get builders/loft companies to quote on the work. Presumably this way builders are quoting against like for like work rather than a quick site visit.

What is people's experience of both routes and are there recommendations for architects/loft companies please?

  I remember both, many, many years ago. And the Kings Arms was at the junction of East Dulwich Road and Peckham Rye, it was huge and was converted to flats. Oh those were the days.
