Interesting question

Akin to how many who attended the market this, weekend are asymptomatic ?

Answer : nobody knows

but if it closed for another reason, you wouldn't miss the market ?

But really, we shouldn't be having to enforce an obscure pre-Victorian bye-law to get people to wear masks !!

The council website is unhelpful but there is an email address that may be worth contacting. Though the lockdown restricts the market to essential retail so it maybe better.

This is what the council site says.

Limited market service

Southwark markets are currently operating a very limited?service of?goods?at a small number of areas around the borough. If you have an enquiry regarding a specific market, email us at [email protected]. If you're visiting a Southwark market, be aware that current public health guidelines advise that public toilets remain closed for public safety until further notice.

KK I can just imagine you saying that in a whispered voice with shady looks over your shoulder to a bloke in the pub (we all wish)

Popped down just as it opened. Pretty empty. Marshall asking people to wear a mask and not loiter. First time I?ve felt ?safe? there for a while ~ I have just been walking past and not stopping in recent weeks as it was so crowded. Weather probably helped today.

Yes Marshals and Police on the Market.

Marshal asking people to put on masks.

I spoke to Marshal who said he was asking people to put Mask on which they did

(so they did have a Mask) but he said when he goes they just take it off again.

Blatant disregard of any Rules. Marshal and Police say nothing they can do,

?100 on the spot Fine might help.

People simply do not give a Toss (polite version)

DulwichFox

There was a guy Busking .. Singing st the top of his Voice.

Spoke to Marshal who just said.. "nice music"

To be honest, the market is secondary to the fact NXR is a thorougfare. I don't think anyone who needs to get from A to B should be asked to wear a mask. It's suggesting that the market is more important than the free space for everyone. I avoided it and will do again. I think it ought to be shut down for the interim.

And yes, this could be counter productive. But I'm sure the silver tongued Keir Starmer will be able to smooth things over. Not to mention the King and Queen 🤢  I think it's right that people should feel able to make their feelings known. It appears to be  a peaceful and well planned demonstration, and presumably they won't be bringing out the Baby Trump inflatable again, which must be well deflated by now.
    • Its a few years ago now, but I organised my end of year prom (for year 13) at Off the Cuff in Herne Hill - was on the cheaper side to rent and at that age, felt very cool and clubby. I had my own 18th at Whirled Cinema in Loughborough Junction but I'm not sure if they take event bookings like that anymore
    • You are right . It isn't going to change him for the better. Sending such a negative message is potentially counter-productive. Trump is narcissistic, arrogant, unpredictable, spiteful, divisive, and dishonest, with a penchant for a total a disregard for democratic norms.  He is one who bears a grudge so there's a case to be made for not offending him as he could react with a bunch of  adverse actions  such as  deciding to increase import tariffs on UK exports to the US.
    • Unless we don't fly I don't think we can be too critical of the authorities.
