Hygiene and Supermarket Trolleys

I would like the government to make it law to stop children standing or sitting in supermarket trolleys, this is very unhygienic.Children step in all sorts, dog poo, spit, vomit and then with their grubby feet stand in a trolley, at times when I see this I want to say get your child out of the trolley, it really gets on my nerves, anyone else agree, especially with Covid 19 rife.

Sorry, a bit extreme to make it a law but more common sense and for the safety of the child if they topple the trolley over while standing in it. I use those Sainsburys trolley bags which are great but I still stand on the hygiene issue.

What are their parents supposed to do with their children? Leave them at home? Let them run around the supermarket causing havoc and/or getting lost?

Have them on a lead, like a dog?

Surely BeePolite is referring to parents who let their children stand or sit in the actual trolley, rather than sit on the child seat part? If so, then I agree that it?s very unhygienic. If children are in the child seat, then I don?t see that there is a hygiene issue as they would need to be lifted in by a parent/carer.

Yes but the seat part isn?t actually that big, so larger toddlers don?t always fit, and toddlers are the ones more likely to run off or play up, hence why they often still need to be in the trolley. Where possible I think most parents would leave small children at home (if they had someone there) as supermarket shopping is way easier without them, but not everyone has that option!
