Tha Plough Christmas Dinner

I would not usually do this but myself and family (7 adults and 2 children) chose to have our Christmas dinner at The Plough. It was the worst meal. Meat cold veg overcooked and it was an hour late. Also we were told there was no food for the children (even though we had booked it) and when I politely stated this, the waitress told me the chefs had become angry when she mentioned this!

The manager was trying to be helpful and gave us a 20 percent discount and a botlle of champagne but at ?50 per head plus drinks we were still left with a bitter taste in our mouth and I was tempted to ask for a bigger discount. We were also told we would'nt get coffee or mince pies as they were closing and we did not get everything that was supposed to be on the menu.

Unfortunately in the last 2 years I have not had a good experience with food at this pub and probably should have chose elsewhere to go.

Shaz - hate to point out the obvious but in 2 years you haven't had a good eating experience at The Plough, it is often roundly criticised on this Forum and you chose to go there on Christmas Day....................... I know Christmas is the time of peace and goodwill to all but was it necessary to extend those hopes to the catering staff of The Plough?
  • 2 weeks later...

Some years ago I went to a Burns Night at the Plough.

It was a joke. The only resemblance to a Burns Night was that they had haggis as part of the meal.

Our table ended up providing some of the entertainment, if I recall, as the Plough certainly hadn't :))

Probably raucous singing of Scottish songs :))

    • They are so good. Fabulous people too. I love the food - AND they are dog friendly. I don't understand why everyone queues at the place next door when this like goldmine is right THERE!
    • I was just saying this to someone the other day, I have a photo of me at my first job in 1995 with an ashtray and 20 B&H on my desk!
    • Just passed by and it does look nice. I'll try to go in soon. In fact, that whole little stretch of Uplands Rd seems to be having a little renaissance.
    • It's like that most of the time.  Like many, I can only use it at certain times due to work hours and the queue is always out of the door, that said it does tend to move pretty quickly.  Think I was in and out in 25 mins last time which I would call a success! Don't mind Sue, think she woke up on the wrong side of the Post Office queue this morning!
