TheCat
12 hours ago, Sephiroth said: unbelievable - not only does he pop back up to NOT address a point, he then lies about how often he checks the forum "I hadnt checked in on the forum in quite a long time, but had reason to, as am planning a quick trip back later this year...and of course couldn't resist a peek at Sunlit Uplands." I wonder what "quite a long time" can be defined as? Days? Weeks? Months? Because dear reader, if we were to take a look at forum IP records I can assure you that Cat is a regular visitor - he just chooses not to post. But mention his name and boom there he is But yes, there is merit to the argument that there is no-one posting on here which given how much the population loves to grumble about the cost of everything it still collectively won't engage with what it needs to do to start addressing the problems And I used the Australian trade deal as an example Wow...you got me! Sorry, I didn't think it relevant in my first post in over a year to reference the specific frequency with which I might have accessed the forum. But thankfully, to keep me honest I've got a fan boy who regular misses me and obviously checks my profile on a regular basis:) "mentiom his name and boom he is there"...haha..yes, as is the usual custom when someones name is called:) This is a stunning example of pettiness seph, even for you, and its just spoiling for an arguement. And why I don't miss posting on this forum and many of its toxic discussions. None more so than this one. Sephiroth
No one asked anyone to say how long they had been away - so there was no need to lie anyway. Yes I appear to be the only one posting about the damage Brexit continues to inflict on the uk I used the Australia trade deal as an example. Now if an Australian happens upon it they could reflect on how it’s viewed in their country and if it has made the change any opinion - but nope. Cheap shots at me a lies. So very brexit and as for Spartacus - also avoiding the topic and happier to accuse me of same “fanboy!” Nonsense instead of wondering why supporters of such a toxic project continue to lie So very U.K. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/275461-sunlit-uplands-are-we-there-yet/page/38/#findComment-1659942 Share on other sites

malumbu
Another Brexit benefit, for your liver, controls on what we can bring into the country from the EU, from unlimited for booze and fags to, for example, 24 bottles of wine each. So you if you driving to Calais to get the bubbly for your wedding in a hire van, beware. Although I'd quite happily allow no fags, successive governments being guilty of not discouraging cheap imports, duty paid, and duty free. https://www.gov.uk/bringing-goods-into-uk-personal-use/arriving-in-Great-Britain Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/275461-sunlit-uplands-are-we-there-yet/page/38/#findComment-1660173 Share on other sites

malumbu
Bizarre article, blaming failure of Brexit on government and a national pyche rather than the mistake in the first place, believing the lies and exploiting the fear, by many, of foreigners. Sephiroth
The government spends years trying to not implement different parts of Brexit (because had they gone all in the country would have revolted0 - but every time they are finally forced to, it costs a fortune (to consumers and businesses) and adds red tape a large majority now know it's wrong - but constitutionally and emotionally have no way to even consider how to row back https://news.sky.com/story/brexit-border-checks-to-add-billions-to-consumer-bills-13125846 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/275461-sunlit-uplands-are-we-there-yet/page/38/#findComment-1664407 Share on other sites

Sephiroth
Election coming soon everyone as the last one was fought on “getting Brexit done” I’m sure the party that won that election can look forward to crowing about all of the Brexit wins since then and cruise to another victory? ah. No. 3 disastrous PMs since that last election I see today we have touted leader Kemi B crowing about how our Brexit freedom means more red-tape-cutting will mean more pavement tables in the uk? have I been hallucinating all of those pavement tables in eu countries all these years? Sephiroth
Still. If “eating at tables outdoors” is being sold as a Brexit benefit by senior cabinet ministers, it would suggest there aren’t actually any real benefits As the sane among us have been saying for years Blindingly obvious. And just because people don’t want to talk about it any more doesn’t mean the financial and institutional damage it’s doing isn’t severe and ongoing. diable rouge
I think WRT Labour, they don't want to open up what would become another devisive Brexit debate this side of an election. Personally I'm ok with this as I want to see the Tories absolutely shellacked at the GE as a consequence for what they've brought on the country. I doubt that Labour will address Brexit much in a first term either, instead concentrating on the big domestic issues e.g. NHS, transport, education. I realise that these these are all interconnected with Brexit, but the lead-up to Brexit itself took up so much bandwidth that nothing else got done, so I can see Labour swerving the Brexit issue fir as long as they can. Eventually though, you can only ignore the economic gravitational pull of the single largest trading bloc right on your doorstep for so long, and at some point Labour will have to address it, so for me it's more a question of when not if... Sephiroth
all true as far as it goes RD - but it would be useful to have some kind of acknowledgement that public opinion has shifted and to have some kind of mechanism as we deal with the aftermath of this government to say " this is what we are doing in policy area x - but we could get there quicker/cheaper if... y'know... just saying" because damn, but this polite omertà is expensive 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/275461-sunlit-uplands-are-we-there-yet/page/38/#findComment-1666402 Share on other sites
diable rouge
I think this encapsulates well what you're saying about acknowledging the issue, and also what I'm saying that it will only happen when in power. IMO that will be the time to press Labour over the issue, what with the fear of losing power being greater than the hope of gaining power... 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/275461-sunlit-uplands-are-we-there-yet/page/38/#findComment-1666917 Share on other sites
Sephiroth
And now all those lunatic vote leave MPs,, from Gove to Leadsom and dozens more, with many more to come, all announce they won’t stand at the election having pursued their stupid ideology, and capitalising on the emotions of 2019 when people “just wanted Brexit done”, happy to take the “credit”, here we are 5 years later with the carnage visible from space and they won’t even face their electorate. They should be on trial meanwhile, it’s all the little things - like this vote leave constituency and MP, begging for softer rules (despite the like of Priti Patel boasting about cracking down on this kind of travel) what a load of bollix eh? https://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/brexit-school-group-tourism-b2551093.html 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/275461-sunlit-uplands-are-we-there-yet/page/38/#findComment-1666967 Share on other sites
