Bob Buzzard
I?ve removed a few bricks from the party wall with next door, and noticed they don?t seem to use their loft - I don?t see them going in there and there?s only a few boxes of junk in there, some suitcases, chairs, and Christmas decorations. I regularly go in my own loft as it?s been converted to an en-suite bedroom. As they don?t similarly use theirs I was wondering if I went in there and started using it regularly for extra storage if in a few years I could claim it as my own additional loft via adverse possession? Spartacus
Did you build a bridge from your mansion to their loft Bob ?MTH (Must try harder) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/275840-using-my-neighbours-loft/#findComment-1486248 Share on other sites
Bob Buzzard
No. What I?ve done to monitor their usage of the loft is to install in my loft space a ?Mr Beams? motion sensitive light directed toward the (small) hole in the party wall, then if they go in the loft, the light is triggered and that is then picked by my light sensitive webcam in my loft space and I get an app alert on my iPhone 6s. I haven?t had any app alerts since I installed the system 2 weeks ago, so I know they don?t use their loft. SpringTime
Are there any other parts of their property they don't use Mr. B? There must be some void behind the loo and under the beds for example. Whoeveritis
I hate these lofts, they completely ruin the Victorian houses. Ugly doesn?t even come in to it. Why not just buy a bigger house that isn?t an eyesore, is it because people are greedy? Ugly doesn?t even come in to it.I think there are worse things than lofts which ruin the Victorian style of the houses. At least you generally only see the hideous lofts from the back.Inappropriate double glazed windows at the front which aren't sash windows are worse, I think, and also plantation (I think they're called) shutters, though I can see from a functional point of view they are good.ETA: Anyway, I think Bob is probably referring to the original loft, not some carbuncle stuck onto it.ETA: As you were, sorry 😂 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/275840-using-my-neighbours-loft/#findComment-1486910 Share on other sites

Lynne
Am i the only one who thinks spying on your neighbours is creepy?Which part of the house next? malumbu
Used to have noisy neighbours and I'd sit in bed thinking of schemes such as drilling into their loft and filling it with chlorine. Glad I didn't as the acid bath worked much better. Also had a terraced house in Nottingham where the cellar was longer than the house, went into soil flooring and then continued, I assume into the street behind. It freaked me out so we bricked it up at an appropriate place. Spartacus
Hey Bob Legally they don't own the air above their house so with a careful cantilever design you could always build an extension just above their loft 😉 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/275840-using-my-neighbours-loft/#findComment-1487105 Share on other sites

I also have webcams on the front and rear of my house so I can monitor comings and goings on my street, such as Amazon deliveries, and take-out food deliveries.
