The seller hasn't been named on here, and it isn't clear that it was a genuine misunderstanding, given the OP. Maybe it's a warning to others to try things out before you take them home. -

after posting here, he has now contacted me with a solution that hopefully works... laptop was donated to him and he had no clue he was unusable -
