I have checked on Southwark's website, and it's said that the subscriptions for 20/21 closed in February. That must be last February as it includes 2020, but I can't see how to subscribe for this year. Am I missing an important link or process for this? Any input would be great, then it might save me trying to get through to them!

The subscription year runs from April to end of March. That webpage continues

?Subscriptions for 2021/2022 will open in February, and we'll notify households eligible for this service by delivering a leaflet. For existing subscribers we'll send an email reminder, if you've provided us with an email address.?

They?re probably running a little behind, all things considered. Suggest you just sit tight for the time being.

No the message meant that they were not taking new subscriptions from February 2021 as all subscriptions run from 1st of April to 31st March. They do not take part of year payment so if you'd applied in February you'd only get 2 months before having to pay again.

They are begining to send out emails to existing subscribers to renew & soon new subscribers will be able to apply online for the April-March 2021/2022 year.

And you can order a set of Garden Waste bags to tide you through the period before you can subscribe for next year. We only have a small terrace so use this service all year and it works pretty seamlessly.

Yes, when I enquired about the price the guys there said I'd be much better off buying compost elsewhere :))

Which when I heard the price I completely agreed with (grammar).

Got a leaflet through the door from Southwark this week and renewed online for ?40. Bin days are one of the highlights of the week at the moment - like Grayson Perry says in the new Radio Times, ? bin days are great, if you time it right you can have some social interaction? !
  • 2 weeks later...

Still waiting for my Garden Waste Bin Sticker.

Have paid my Subscription ?40.00 as of 4th March 2021

I got a Payment Authentication Receipt email.

Got through to Southwark Council last week and was told it can take up to 10 Days

so I have waited until today .. 13 days

Got back through to Southwark Council.

Guy took all the details but could not confirm if my sticker had been

sent out and told me to give it more time.

Asked to speak to a Manager. Not available as guy was talking to was working from home.

Anybody else having problems...?

Foxy

No sticker yet - but also not having issues getting the bin taken - so perhaps there is a grace period where if you have last year's sticker on they know that the new ones are being sent out?

Is your only problem not having the sticker, or is your brown bin not being collected?

Although I have not yet received my sticker (requested on-line as soon as they went live with emails and a letter drop) I have received a replacement brown bin as also ordered (my current one was split and is held together only with tape following an over-enthusiastic bin lorry mechanism incident).

So I think we should be receiving stickers in due course. Also my card account has been charged.

    • David Attenborough has also done programmes on this amazing relationship.  This is from 2010 but I am sure that there were more recent programmes on the Beeb https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p006ry61 Mummy trees are amazing.
    • Have you considered PIV - positive input ventilation. We retro fitted a Soler & Palau super quiet in-line fan system. This takes cool air from the outside ans is ducted into the loft. It is really quiet and very efficient. It is controlled by a reverse thermostat ie one which shuts the system off when the temperature drops to a set level. We are very pleased with it especially as it costs a fraction of a/c and provides greater flexibility in terms of location of vents and ducting.
    • If you’re into nature or just love trees, this lovely program is worth catching up on https://www.channel5.com/show/the-secret-life-of-trees It’s one of those quietly fascinating watches that leave you thinking about the world a bit differently. I had no idea that trees are connected underground by fungal networks. They use them to share nutrients, water, and even to send signals to each other. They can recognise their kind and give more support to their “relatives” than to other trees nearby. They can also remember things like droughts or pest attacks and change how they respond in the future. No wonder so many cultures and spiritual traditions view trees as sacred. In some belief systems, cutting one down is thought to carry serious karmic consequences. When you learn about how they live, communicate, and support one another, it makes sense. The natural world is far more aware and interconnected than we tend to realise.
    • I installed an all-in-one air conditioning unit at my holiday home since I wasn’t allowed to have an external fan unit outside. It actually works just as well, was easier to fit, and although it’s slightly noisier, it’s a good solution overall. https://www.orionairsales.co.uk/all-in-one-air-conditioning-142-c.asp?srsltid=AfmBOopZSVZj1_utAO-Hr4m5M323nRZru6Zmf1YuT4KP2touJ2OLaruU
