DIY Household Improvements courses
Mountain walker replied to Gill2's topic in What's on in East Dulwich
I have done some DIY skills courses at the Goodlife Centre based up between Blackfriars and London Bridge. Hands on learning. -
I spoke to the relief postie in our road today. According to him our regular postie is off with Covid, there is not much cover, sorting office is short staffed and the staff are dealing with lots of tracked Covid test deliveries. He didn't think a visit to the sorting office would be productive. Not a very promising outlook.

Really Maria on Lordship Lane has a note in the window saying they do sewing machine repairs.

Sad to report that in our part of SE22 the delivery service appears to have deteriorated. Letters and cards taking ages to arrive, if at all. Several magazines missing along with online purchases. Does anyone know if I can make a trip to pick up post from the Peckham Sorting Office?

We want to replace our current Mira shower with a modern version. Probably also needs a bit of update to the electrical wiring. Can anyone recommend a plumber/electrician/heating engineer to carry out this work? Thanks.

Recomendations needed - double glazing / doors and windows

We had a lot of windows replaced about five years ago by Bespoke. Recommended. -
Perhaps also post this in the business section with the name of the company in the subject line.

Garden Bins - subscribing to - how to?

Might I suggest a connection between waiting for the permit and the issues many of us are having with Royal Mail deliveries. These are discussed at length elsewhere. -
Bi Fold Doors - any recommendations?

We used P&P glass to supply and fit Sunflex bifolds. Still very pleased with the job they did about 5 years ago. -
what to do if a shop is not taking covid seriously
Mountain walker replied to fulfordf's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Disappointed to see that some customers in the Forest Hill Road Coop are still not following the law. I just asked a woman in there why she was not masked and was standing too close. No exempt badge. All I got was abuse. The other customers kept quiet. We need zero tolerance to stop the virus. If she had been smoking in the shop would the staff and customers let her carry on? -

Has anyone seen the police stop anyone illegally riding an e-scooter around East Dulwich? There are an increasing number of riders who seem to regard the pavement as their domain and when on the road are a menace to all. Our car was damaged by one a few months ago, luckily the rider was honest enough to pay for the repairs.

Can anyone tell me what advice bus drivers have been given as regards passengers boarding buses without wearing masks. I would also like to know how to report or complain officially about journeys on which there is widespread non compliance. I have just had a bus journey on which a good 25% of the passengers were not even pretending to wear a mask. It didn't feel safe and unless there is active enforcement or the offenders catch the virus and get ill or infect their loved ones I don't see their behaviour changing.

Looking for underfloor heating fitter
Mountain walker replied to Mountain walker's topic in Request a Tradesperson
Sadly no. We had a quote that we accepted but the contractor never responded. Luckily we hadn't paid out any money. We are still keen to have this done. Probably electric rather than wet system but open to discussion. -
We also used Art with Glass to make a new, using old glass, stained glass window for our front door in our 1930s semi. They also restored and reinstated the glass panels in our dining room double doors and a large mezzanine window using panels and window discarded by neighbours. Very pleased with the work.

We have just been for a daily walk. Saw a full on game or perhaps training session in Peckham Rye Park. Contact tackling etc, at least 20 players in training bibs, others watching.I am sure this is against all Covid19 advice and guidance. Presumably whoever organised this doesn't care.No sign of police. Have the authorities given up on social distancing? I don't want to be a killjoy but this felt irresponsible.

Decorator / Bathrooms / Refurb - Gary Skinner - 07572 588222
Mountain walker replied to firstchoicegary's topic in Reviews
Hi We needed some internal plaster repair/replacement to one of window bays. We found Gary through the forum. He responded quickly, gave us a sensible price, and managed to fit in doing our relatively small piece of work around larger projects. The job included removing the plaster, sealing the exposed brick, replastering/skimming and then lining. Gary and his mate Darren did a good job and always left the place clean and tidy. They left the bay lined and ready to re-paint. Next time we need anything similar doing we will contact Gary. Recommended.- 120 replies

Oven service & repair (dual fuel)
Mountain walker replied to Jamesh31's topic in Request a Tradesperson
We have used the Spin doctor to fix a couple of things on our Smeg range cooker. Always been a reasonable price and the things he has sorted still work many years later. I don't have his number to hand but know that other people on here have used him. Do a quick search. -
Steven cleaned our windows this morning. In and out. Very pleased with his work. And he's a nice guy as well. Recommended.

We would like to install electric underfloor heating in our kitchen. Sub floor is timber floorboards. Area about 8m2. Preference is for a fitter who can also remove the existing tiles and lay new tiles.
