NKEM'S new restaurant in Nunhead

Hi all! On my way home tonight I finally went into Nkem's restaurant / take away at 100 Evelina Road. (continuation of Nunhead Lane, almost opposite the butchers.)

I saw they opened a while ago and have been meaning to go in for ages. They have a really nice shopfront and a swish blue backlit sign. I always get excited to see new shops open in Nunhead as I grew up here and like to see the place do well. I also spent a few years (8) working for Southwark Council in my 20's and used to get fed by lots of my Nigerian and Ghanian motherly colleagues So I have been looking forward to stopping by!

So I had Jollof rice with beef for dinner and loved every bit of it! It was ?6 which isn't bad but I offered the nice chap ?10 to give me a MEGA portion as I was hungry but he said the normal amount would be enough and he was right. It was lovely and filled me up a treat. So I highly recommend NKEM's! And I will be going back regularly!

    • It’s literal.  There are levels of earners. Those who don’t work and get benefits, those who work and get benefits, those who work but don’t get benefits. now, it’s an assumption that the last group are all wealthy, but that’s not the case. People in this last group are most exposed.. private rent, higher tax brackets, cost of living increases, yet they pay the most tax, and get no help.    So many questions: why are workers needing to be subsidised? Should companies pay more? Should there be private rent caps?  Why are people better off not working at all, or only working low hours to ensure they get benefits top ups?  How do you think people respond to this?     Do you realise that a number of companies are focussing on buying property? The banks, the supermarkets! Yet the government is squeezing individuals out of this equation. What do you think this will look like in the future? When foreign companies own the majority of UK property?
    • All depends on what you call reasonably priced!  Was it for Christmas Day?   Noticed that The Plough were advertising Christmas Lunches but did not see any prices listed.
    • A few weeks back, I booked an appointment by phone, not the app, which surely must be the same process as booking it at reception? Though it was for a longer appointment than usual, so maybe that was why?
