  1. We are looking for a finance assistant for Balfe's Bikes in East Dulwich. We are expanding and are looking for a finance assistant to help and work alongside the Accountant assisting with day to day tasks and financial administration. Your responsibilities will include Accounts Payable and the input of information into the accounting software Xero. You will also be required to maintain accounting information in Excel. You will be IT literate with good Excel skills. Experience of Xero is preferable but not essential The role is likely to require 10-15 hours a week, moving forwards we will probably require more hours per week, so this could be a job that you could build upto. Initially you will be based in our East Dulwich shop but soon you will be able to work from home if that is preferable. Please email [email protected] if you are interested or have any questions.
  2. We have sledges! Balfe's Bikes, 36 East Dulwich Road, SE22 9AX. Call us to reserve if you would like, 020 7732 4170. They are ?20 each, are good quality and will last. Thanks! Rich
  3. Hi folks at 6:12 this morning 4th July we were ram raided by four lads on two mopeds. They stole four Brompton bikes from us. If anyone was around the East Dulwich road area and saw anything we'd really appreciate any info you might have. They headed off towards Goose Green from our shop. Thanks all, Rich
  4. August 2008 we opened. So a while now. Thanks GroveLaneMan, sorry again we let you down this time. Rich
  5. Hi GroveLaneMan, we do normally sell your size tyre but sold a few that weekend already. We never advise people to go down to Evans unless it is in their best interests to, i.e to get them on the road quickly and fortunately we rarely have to do it! Before that however we did offer to have a tyre delivered for Tuesday but we appreciate that that could hold you up for a few days. We probably do have you on our database but on Sunday neglected to take your name, so on this occasion we didn't book you on the system, so couldn't call you. That's our fault, sorry. Your right it isn't a quad bike but neither is it a common tyre size so if we have a run on those tyres we shall run out...but sometimes we can sit on them for weeks. So it is a tough one to judge how many to keep in stock but I shall up out minimum stock levels. I am sorry you didn't feel like you received good service from us, I'm glad Edwardes were able to help you, they are good guys. Kindest, Richard Balfe.
  6. Hi all, Cactus, that sounds terrible I'm sorry we let you down like that. I'm not sure what happened but it shouldn't have. Let me know how I can make it up to you please? Jon, I've just pm'd you, sorry for your service I hope we can work that out. MissMadMoo, we are always happy to show people how to do their own jobs. I have to say that our labour rates compared with other shops are actually pretty reasonable. We keep an eye on local charges and never intend to charge too much. If you compare us to the chains we are hands down cheaper. Our parts are charged at rrp and we do not mark up. I can promise you that our services are some of the most reasonably priced around, just have a look at what we include: (http://www.balfesbikes.co.uk/pages/service_general.html) I'd like to say that all my staff and myself work really hard to provide a good service, I employ people who know and love bikes and we take feedback like this really seriously. But at the heart our business is a great workshop and the will to always do a job we can be proud of. Sorry to those of you that we have let down. Richard Balfe.
  7. Hi all, we've refitted our shop in anticipation of Evans and upped the range of bikes and accessories we stock. We have also enlarged our already great workshop so we can handle more servicing work. So totally up for the competition and hope to be able to bring Dulwich the best Balfe's ever! We look forward to seeing you all, kindest, Richard Balfe.
  8. Hi everybody. Strange request. Balfe's Bikes from 36 East Dulwich Rd, SE22 9AX generates a fair amount of end of line products that cannot be sold on the shop floor, or stock with damaged packaging. We need someone who in their own time can advertise the bits and bobs on ebay or this forum or elsewhere. There are ebay brokers out there but they don't tend to touch anything below ?50. We have a lot of items over that value but also lots under. We can pay 30% of everything sold and we'll split the listing fee 50/50. Balfe's will cover commission, if any. If anyone out there is interested there is definitely a few quid in it and a fairly regular source of products. Currently I have LOTS of clothing, 40 ish helmets which rrp at ?100 each. Three road bikes which average at about ?900 each, an I-pad, lights, locks, tyres. It all adds to over ?6000 at retail, obviously we wont get that but perhaps half... If anyone is interested we'd like to see a track record of listings and selling as we'd like to know you'd have the gumption to come up with a good description! Look forward to hearing from you, Richard Balfe. [email protected]
  9. Balfe's Bikes on East Dulwich Road have some in. Call us before you leave to check there are some left though as for some reason there's been a rush this morning! 020 7732 4170. Hope to see you later! Thanks Richard and team
  10. Hi all! On my way home tonight I finally went into Nkem's restaurant / take away at 100 Evelina Road. (continuation of Nunhead Lane, almost opposite the butchers.) I saw they opened a while ago and have been meaning to go in for ages. They have a really nice shopfront and a swish blue backlit sign. I always get excited to see new shops open in Nunhead as I grew up here and like to see the place do well. I also spent a few years (8) working for Southwark Council in my 20's and used to get fed by lots of my Nigerian and Ghanian motherly colleagues So I have been looking forward to stopping by! So I had Jollof rice with beef for dinner and loved every bit of it! It was ?6 which isn't bad but I offered the nice chap ?10 to give me a MEGA portion as I was hungry but he said the normal amount would be enough and he was right. It was lovely and filled me up a treat. So I highly recommend NKEM's! And I will be going back regularly!
  11. Hi all, thanks ever-so much for the great comments! We really appreciate them! Merry New Year to you all, Rich, Kieran, Glen, Stephen & Jody.
  12. Certainly am! Please pop it into our shop: BC BIKES LTD, 36 East Dulwich Road, SE22 9AX. Many thanks, Richard.
  13. I saw it. Quite liked it, hope the little girl with the back-to-front helmet gets us on Points of View too!
  14. Dear ED forum, I am setting up Balfe's Bikes at 50 East Dulwich Road. I have been amazed by the great response I've had locally, especially with regards to servicing. I have to admit that I underestimated the servicing demand, so much so in fact that towards to end of last week we became more of a garage than a shop! I understand that I cannot offer a functioning shop with so much servicing taking place, so to clear a backlog and to properly stock and merchandise the shop I have temporarily closed. Charl1e is right, customers deserve a good experience. I do not want to promise more than I can deliver hence this decision. We are employing some mechanics, making sure that they are experienced and capable. I look forward to opening again on Friday 5th September. I will be at the shop most of the time between then and now, the shutters shall be down but if you would like to pop in and say hello, ask questions or suggests things I could stock then please do not hesitate. many thanks for your patience, Richard Balfe. 020 7732 4170.
