Installing a fireplace/Stove

Recommended Posts

I have recently had a woodburner installed. I got my stove directly from The Forest Bailiff in Wimbledon but only because I had my heart set on a particular make and they are the official London supplier. Independently I had my fireplace checked and cleaned by Pearce and son and installed- which also meant having chimney lined and pot put on chimney- by Dennis. Casa in Bellenden Road also supply s good selection of stoves and arrange for fittings (through Dennis the fitter) Sorry cant find numbers right now but they are on the main stove thread on ed forum.

There are lots of recommendations on here for different suppliers and fitters if you look up 'wood burning stove'. When it comes to it, everyone raves about the particular one they chose so I don't think you can go wrong!

whoever fits your stove is going to cost around ?1100 so the stove is on top of that and they range from ?500-?1000, remembering you MUST get a DEFRA approved one to burn in London.

The website http://www.whatstove.co.uk/ is excellent for checking real user reviews of stoves against ones you 've seen or taken a fancy to. The main cost is installation so no point in saving yourself a couple of hundred quid if it means you end up with an inefficient stove. For instance a London favourite seems to be the MORSO Squirrel defra approved one, though the firebox is a bit small and reviews for that are excellent on the site to give you something to compare everything with.

Anything over 5kw will require additional ventilation in the room you install it in. But chimney man can assess all that.

Funnily enough I've just posted a recommendation:

This was for servicing not installation although I'd certainly consider getting a quote as he seemed capable and reliable. Edit: if you do give him a call, let him know you found him via the East Dulwich Forum, as I was extolling its virtues to him :)

If you are after a wood burner I'm also aware of http://sustainablefires.co.uk/ who are also local.

    • I'm getting dozens of fliers a year from all the estate agents.  I'm not selling, thinking of selling or renting out. The one from John D Woods really got my goat as it is plastic coated so can't even be recycled.  I've emailed them.  They must be making so much money to to these mass mail outs.  I couldn't find the old thread about things that put you into an irrational rage (although this rage is not irrational) I have a nice time too watching GB win their first medal at the Winter Olympics - that is an understatement! I'll burn it, sod the tiny impact on air quality.
    • @PenguinYou will have to explain this to me bearing in mind your and others outrage at a possible new scheme on Ryedale, and the use by many on this forum of Southwark News to support their reaction. I don't know what precautionary mindset means.  The precautionary principle is that we need to act now for example in tackling climate change rather than wait twenty years for conclusive evidence (that was the situation in 2006 when Stern published his report) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stern_Review

    • Is it possible for someone to change the heading, because it is not clear that this "fatality" has not just happened. I'm not sure that the OP still posts on here. Admin?
