Has anybody had multi-focal lenses inserted following cataracts?

If so, what pros and cons did you find, were they vastly expensive, did you still have to wear glasses for some things, and would they have to be replaced at some point?

I'm very short sighted and presently have varifocal glasses and multi-focal daily contact lenses for occasional wear, but I'm getting cataracts and beginning to look at options.

?8k?

I'll probably stick to the NHS option then!!!

But I don't see why it would be any more scary than any cataract op, it would just be inserting different lenses?

If you don't have it done at all, you would gradually not be able to see at all, and for me at least that would be a lot scarier!

I have just had my first Cataract Op. 12th April.

I had it done st St. Thomas'

It took 24 minutes.

I went for Distant Lens (0) which means I will need Reading glasses for close up

Need to wait for other eye to be done before I can get Prescription Reading glasses'

Very awkward at the moment using PC and Iphone.

Have to put Eye Drops in for 1 month.. 4 times a day. 2 lots for the first week,

My distant vision is Brilliant and I can see the TV well without any glasses..

Better than that I can read the Whateley Road sign opposite the end of my road from outside my house.

Most people opt for a Distant lens implant.

That's very good!

I'm slightly concerned because at present, being shortsighted, I can read better without my varfifocal glasses than I can with them, but when I get my cataracts sorted that won't be the case.

I don't want to have one eye for reading and one for distance, because I tried that with contact lenses and I couldn't get on with it at all.

Interested in your experience, Foxy, thanks, but I read a lot more than I watch TV (in fact I no longer have a TV) so the idea of constantly having to find my reading glasses (or going around with them hanging round my neck) doesn't particularly appeal :))

I suspect there will always be a compromise, short of shelling out eight grand ......

Yes, but whatever you are starting with you can get glasses to correct it if necessary for particular situations - driving, reading or computer :)

    • It didn't occur to me to ask. No idea if dieticians are employed within the NHS. It is just one line of enquiry among others. The GP mentioned it, not me.
    • I thought the most they sell in terms of hot food at londis is like pastries and sausage rolls and for hot drinks its like costa coffee but its always a convenience store. Doesn’t look too bad in my opinion considering that shop has been closed down ever since i moved here
    • Hi Busterb, Yesterday I turned up with a scanner & towels, hoping to take a deceased tabby down to TNV. The body was moved moments before arrival & had not been turned in to any vets, rescues or animal hospitals. I am wondering if this could have been the same cat & if someone just tried to move the tabby further away from the road. Please be warned, viewers discretion is advised. but this is what the deceased tabby looked like: https://www.facebook.com/groups/900015513463302/permalink/3729980853800073/  In any case, if you haven't been able to get someone to scan or take down to a vet, I can scan tomorrow morning.
