Kings is great. Not posh or anything but they have a nice suite if you want to go intervention-free, then great facilities if god forbid anything went wrong. Strong midwife team.

Don?t know anyone who has used a private midwife. If you want a home birth you can just ask on the nhs and they?ll provide a midwife to assist in the homebirth. There are specialist teams on the nhs.

Had a tricky birth at Kings but still plan to have my second there. The fetal medical centre where you have scans etc is world class, as a research hospital there?s extra precautionary measures re preeclampsia as a result, for example. Also, it has a NICU if god forbid anything was wrong with baby at birth and is part of Kings Health Partnership so very closely linked up with Evelina Children?s Hospital too.

Hi Minisimo2,

I'm a local Mum and Private Midwife (lived in ED for 25 years, run antenatal classes here for 15 years and all four of my children born and raised here - ED is carved on my heart!)I've PM'd you to say please feel free to ask me anything :) If you'd like, I can ask some of my current/ previous ED clients if they'd be happy for you to chat with them about the services locally, both NHS and private - just let me know. x

Both of my kids were born at St Thomas. Its one of the best hospitals in the country for neo-natal care and was convenient for appointments at work. We paid for a private room post birth both times as well which was pricy but really nice as my husband could stay and we had lots of privacy as a new little family unit.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Hi

I used a private midwife ([email protected]) as I found the NHS service to be severely lacking. It was fantastic having an advocate when I needed to go to hospital as well, as I didn't want to be bullied into doing things that weren't right for me.

I would urge you to consider all possibilities and write down what you would like to happen in an ideal world, and what you are happy to accept if things don't go to plan.

Best of luck!

Kind Regards

Johanna

    • Before going to Social Media it is always worth checking out the details: Southwark's spending for this year: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/council-tax/how-we-manage-council-tax/our-budget-and-how-we-spend-council-tax/our-income-and As you will see, as with most if not all London Boroughs, shed loads goes on social care and children's services.  The cost of paying for residential care, and for 'specialist schools is massive.  As with other boroughs they have been hit hard by austerity under the coalition government.  And the failure by successive governments to sort out social care.  That is a thread all in its own rights. Local authorities of all political persuasions across England are facing tough times, several have gone into administration: Birmingham, Woking, Thurrock, Croydon, Slough, Northamptonshire, and Nottingham and 11 are on bailouts.   Covid will not have helped.  Some will have made some poor investment decisions in the past eg Thurrock and Woking;  Some total mismanagement and one has been hit by historical debt through not paying their workers fairly (Brum).   Reform promise simple solutions to cutting spending.  Not that easy is it Nige?
