Hello, I am really in need of advice. My dad isn't coping living alone very well with food, laundry, medications etc. He's a happy , independently minded and very chatty person who needs company. I'm trying to find a care home or sheltered accommodation for him locally. But I'm clueless. Does anyone have any information on Evans House on Underhill Road? Or any other recommendations or steer-clear tips? Thanks so much!

Hi, my mothers at Greenhive in Nunhead. I think it is really good, lots of activities, lovely staff, large garden. I've also used home carers. I think, if he is safe over night on his own, starting with home carers is a good option. Happy for you to PM me if you want any more information. Sadly my mother has Alzheimer's so I have lots of experience with the care system xx

As a former health and Social Care professional, I regularly visited Greenhive over many years and can confirm that it has been a good home with plenty of activities etc. Can also recommend The Elms in Barry Road.

Private carers seem to range from ?15 - ?25 per hour depending on agency etc.

    • Yes, should have given up by now but haven’t. Was waiting for my train yesterday and went into WHS on platform to buy a pack of fags. Almost feel to the floor when guy quoted me £28.00 for a packet of Silk Cut purple. Was a long day for me and thought I had totally misheard him! Asked again, only to be told that that was the price whuch is well over the odds..when I queried it as have bought, admittedly end of last year was told “ this is what management charges”. Surely this can’t be right…fags stayed in WHS paws while I bought some in Herne Hill at normal price. Still reeling over shock…..
    • I use the one in peckham where lidles is they are really good if you need somewhere closer
    • Going to be really inconvenient for folk to go that way as has been stated.. why not just move to Camberwell which I would assume is abit nearer and better travelling wise or have vets in both places from Lordship Lane Branch.. Must have been massive flood if going to take two months to dry out, electrical tests to make sure all good… From upstairs? Or where?
    • @selector73 Thanks!  Because we want him to be treated by the vets that know him we will have to get to the New X branch because thats where the team are based until LL reopens. Thank you again 🙏
