Again, I want to set something up to ensure ALL children, benefit from healthy foods which are rich in the nutrients they need! I see something that you as parents may not, being around children 12 hours a day! I see alot of brands which are favoured amongst parents such as Innocent, Nature and earth peanut butter and chocolate spread, Neo valley, Eco friendly washing up liquid and washing up powder. Even clothing brands such as Boden, Why? Why these brands? Why not others! Feedback would be great! I believe that this will turn into something beneficial for all parents, once have finished creating something special for everyone! but I need to research first!

Please be honest, don't be shy :)

If there is something in the list of ingredients that I don't know, then I will not buy it.....what is fructo-oligsaccharides for example, most likely a sugar of some sort! That is listed on a mini pack of nesquik chocolate cereal left over from a multi pack of cereals which we bought for camping last summer! Hubby will eat them!

I try and buy food which hasn't been handled too often......birds eye fish fingers, as lovely as they are have been handled a lot to get to what they are. I buy fillets off the fish counter, and make breadcrumbs, hey presto a fish finger!

I prefer to bake cake and biscuits than buy them for the same reasons. They don't last as long of course!

I look forward to following this thread......

I can't help smiling at your post Sbot. I am exactly the same.

I also like to read ingredients lists and will not buy anything with dodgy sounding fats or sugars. I have a slight fixation about rapeseed oil (v high omega 3) which I now bake and fry with. Ocado sell breaded fish fillets which have rapeseed in the coating. We all have these every Monday night with home made oven chips and peas.

I make my own chicken nuggets.

:-)

I wish I could say I check the label of all the foods I buy but shock horror I don't!!! I've got 3 boys, I work 3 days a week, I don't have a cleaner so life is quite full on, if I had more free time perhaps I would stress over what they eat, but I'm quite relaxed in that as long as they are getting some protein (chicken or fish fingers, frozen ones!) enough vegtables, fruit, carbs etc each day, well thats good enough for me. In an ideal world I would love to bake cakes and treats every day for the family......but I dont so they eat jam tarts, cookies, crisps all of which are full of things I probably wouldn't want to know about BUT they eat these in moderation , same as when I was a kid, it hasn't done me any harm, I'm 33 and I've only got 1 filling!!

PS They eat honey nut cheerios most days but have been known to eat coco pops when I've got the variety packs!!! (hold my head in shame now :))

    • ...and so, 4 years on from the "dramatic planning meeting" that approved the "meganursery", how has it all worked out in reality? The building looks nice from the outside - but I don't know anything more. Did either of the nursery businesses on EDG fail because there was no demand for nursery places in East Dulwich? Did Carmageddon on East Dulwich Grove get worse? Were pre-COVID work patterns abandoned forever (lol)? Were some of the concerns expressed in opposition to the planning application a teensy bit overblown...? https://southwarknews.co.uk/area/southwark/mega-nursery-approved-amid-dramatic-planning-meeting/
    • If I don’t feed the birds, they’ve actually come and perched on the fence and stared directly at me through the window. The squirrels do that too.
    • Reading The words 'Artisan'  and 'Curated' when refering to my 'Breakfast Bundle' frankly make me feel a bit..🤢
    • I would recommend Coopers bakehouse, which offer a similar service to B&C but it’s just focussed on really good bread, decent prices and keeps for ages (also freezes well).  Delivered by bike.
