I'm not sure there was ever demand for a general meeting.

There's loads of special interest groups in the What's On section.

There's a variety of council meetings that can be attended also.

There's irregular forum drinks when someone wants to go through the paid of organizing :)

The East Dulwich Society still exsists but most of the members do not appear to want to attend meetings. I am the current vice chair and although membership money is forthcoming each year, active participation is not. The EDS used to have their AGMs at John Paul Centre behind St. Thomas More Church, but many felt it was too isolated place so it was changed to The ED Community Centre. There was a committee of around 10 people initially but deaths, moving out of district and old age have twindled the EDS down to around 5 people who meet around 4 times a year. New blood is needed and younger members ( we are all now over 60) to keep the society going. The AGM will be held in MArch/April at the Community Centre and I will put details on the Forum

It might not be quite what you had in mind, but we are a bake club and host local events every 4 to 6 weeks. If you'd like to know more or sign up to our mailing list, please feel free to get in touch: [email protected].

    • As a cafe, yes. And they kept all the chandeliers they hadn't sold as an antique shop still hanging up. They had a real mouse problem, quite well covered up, however.
    • Ah yes, that's right. Didn't Chandelier sell a huge range of different kinds of tea?  That militaria shop was bonkers.
    • Spinach took over from Chandelier, which was then a cafe but had been an antique shop of the same name. Some shops up from Target Arms the militaria shop.
    • My friend and I once did a cocktail crawl down Lordship Lane.  I think we started at Black Cherry (now Franco Manca). It got off to a good start when I knocked mine over and had to buy another one. Liquorish was in there somewhere. The crawl ended with me carrying a chair and her a set of glasses, both bought from an antique shop at some point on the crawl, can't remember where and long gone. Was it where Spinach is now? Somewhere round there. The antique shop, not Spinach!
