In the spirit of 90% of everything is sh!t, and this is paticularly true of Blogs, I thought it might be a good place to put up posts of insight, interest, humour or whatever else pushes our buttons.

I'll kick off with a lightweight and a heavyweight:

Flip Flop Flying sort of explains Britain for foreigners.

And Lenin's Tomb (t'internet's most interesting commie) has a fascinating review on a book about Franco, Spain, Morocco and the influence of European colonialism on the fascist thinking in general.

Our Supreme Leader you mean? ;-)

'Lenin' is a Trotskyist and more disturbingly a Respect activist. I don't agree with much that he has to say, but he has a very eclectic eye on the internet and the world in general and I do get to read a lot of things of interest by following the links, stuff that StumpleUpon would certainly never stumble upon.

The straightforward description of the book was pretty interesting, but he does begin to completely lose it in the last few paragraphs as his analysis kicks in. I still think the book in question would be a fascinating read though.

Are we allowed to recomment whole blogs or just single posts?

Well if the former I'll just do the one for now. It's politically on another planet to me most of the time (most not all) but never fails to make me think and consider my position. I think that's the best anyone can say of a blog. I'm not a big fan of the foaming-at-the-mouth mob. This is far more intelligent.

Samizdata

As usual well said. That's exactly what any good writing should do.

I have feeds from all over the political spectrum, military analysts, geeks, comics, photographers, politicians, chefs, academics, mums from Dulwich, even that chap who used to be the annoying Wesley off Star Feck has a weirdly entertaining blog.

Whole blogs are fine.

This ones a good'un the BBC Editors Blog.

Whatever you may think of the Beeb, it's always interesting to read what the people who make BBC News talk about the thinking behind their decision making.

"Our faith in liberal democracy is a mighty weapon [...] The hand of fate has fallen into our laps, and we refuse to spend the Greatest Intellectual Struggle of Our Time tucked out of sight or stuck in the rear."

Good stuff. Raised a chuckle and helped delay the onset of work for a little while.

    • Miss Robson is the last of the old school independent vets. All the chains are have seriously hiked their prices over the last few years which now makes pet ownership only possible for the wealthy few. Even with pet insurance -( which often excludes items or has ‘deductibles’ ) it is just so much money. A visit with some medication is often £150 - £200. The vets themselves are excellent.
    • Awful. A Google search came up with this, but will he check his office email over Christmas? Maybe worth also contacting local councillor? 'To contact Southern Housing's CEO, Paul Hackett, you can try his direct email, [email protected], or use the general contact email [email protected], as well as calling their main number, 0300 303 1066, for general inquiries or to be directed to the executive level.' Also, from the website: https://www.southernhousing.org.uk/latest-news/2025/contacting-us-over-the-festive-period   'Contacting us about an emergency? If you have an emergency outside of the above times over the festive period, such as severe flooding, an uncontainable leak, gas leak, complete electrical failure or lift breakdown, please call us on 0300 303 1066' I hope it is sorted out soon.
    • Dawson Heights again  2 lifts out of order at ladlands block Christmas Eve so of course the 🛗 will not be repaired tomorrow Christmas Day or Boxing Day or when how do elderly or mothers with children and prams and food and presents get to the floors and with the 10 minutes you get to drop off  to park and not get a Pcn fine and delivery food to relatives who can’t leave their house unbelievable Southern housing does any know email address of Coe of southern housing
    • Sorry but I think it's best if people just check things for themselves when they buy things. In three shops/restaurants (from some years back) I just avoid the places concerned, as in all three  cases I was pretty sure it wasn't a genuine mistake, and in one place  it happened more than once and usually late at night.
