intexasatthe moment
I know we had heavy rain yesterday but I'm surprised by the flooding .Perhaps the rain was significantly heavier in Eg Camberwell and Battersea than we had in ED ? I'm wondering if drains were blocked ,possibly the recent dry spell meant a build up of debris that regular rain would flush down ,and if this was a factor .I feel sure ( often wrong when I feel like that ! ) we've had similar downpours in the past which haven't resulted in this degree of flooding .What do others think ? Oh ,and I understand about the heat meeting the cooler air and climate change . KidKruger
I think the volume of rain in such a short timeframe was exceptional. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/290250-flooded-roads-drainage-issue/#findComment-1526438 Share on other sites
Earl Aelfheah
It's going to become less exceptional as time goes on.The paving over front gardens doesn't help. Nigello
Re drains - many drains have been blocked for ages. Some were unblocked, perhaps because I had reported them, but some remain clogged up. Same in Westminster, so don't blame it entirely on the downpour itself. Sure, that had lots to do with it, but if the drains aren't unblocked that must have an impact on whether or not there are floods. intexasatthe moment
It was a lot of rain in a short period but I swear I've seen that amount in the past .Without the resultant flooding .But maybe I'm wrong! bigmacca1
Once upon a time you used to see the council keeping drains clear on the streets with there big sludge gulpers as a maintained job , cant remember the last time i see one of those ??Seems they now wait for a problem to happen before doing anything. KidKruger
If the councils could ?pollard? drains to reduce maintenance, they would. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/290250-flooded-roads-drainage-issue/#findComment-1526629 Share on other sites
Nigello
Bigmacca - I have seen them but curiously only a week or so after I had told the council about problem drains (as shown by massive puddles after heavy rain). Perhaps they are busy everywhere else. A policy of cleaning twice a year would seem at least possibly a good idea, though I don't know whether this is actually the case already.
