Husband cycled out to Greenwich yesterday, didn?t like cycling along the path there at all, I think he said lots of cobbles? He goes very early so don?t know about number of people.

Today he cycled to Keston Common, took him about 90 minutes there (uphill) and back. Couldn?t give you the route as he weaves about all over the place. He came back via the Pool River.

Some parts of the Thames path are narrow, but most bikes and pedestrians seem to manage. If you are on thin tyres the cobbles around the Cutty Sark pub can act like tram tracks, beware! The Anchor and Hope pub is a nice stop near Charlton as it is the only riverside pub that I know that has not been tarted up/gastro'd/over priced. It's Greene King though which is a shame.

Thinking of East Dulwich you can miss some of the worst traffic out going via the Rye, over the pedestrian bridge to Crofton Park then down to Ladywell where you can get on the Waterlink Way.

You can also combine a hills of Lewisham ride - One Tree Hill, Blythe Hill, Telegraph Hill, and possibly Horniman Hill. Although this can involve the race track aka Brenchley Gardens.

Southwark Cyclists (that anarchy group trying to bring down the state - my joke) do some nice gentle rides. I'd recommend Penge Cyclists rather than Dulwich Paragon if you want some more testing social rides but at a reasonably relaxed speed. Southwark Cyclists usually post on the Whats On section of this site.

    • I don't know how it works now but my late parents had little money when they were retired (just state pension and they rented their flat) and they used to take their cat to the Blue Cross (In Victoria if I remember correctly) where treatment was free for those who could'nt afford a private vet. I sincerely hope similar is available still because for many elderly their pet is their main source of comfort and company.
    • In a couple of places locally, I have come across this. I am fairly sure that they attempt to do the bill in their head. If you just say , “no, I think it’s x” they start again and get to an agreeable number, or find a calculator. I don’t think it’s a malicious attempt to swindle people. Just not great arithmetic.
    • There are excellent charities like the Greenwich Wildlife Network who will help if you report any concerns with local wildlife. Foxes are wonderful creatures who had been forced into our town and cities and are just doing their best to survive, we should take care of them when we can.
    • Like I thought… prob like that for most of the day.. especially after people had walked their dogs, with friends, relatives  kids…
