Damp smell in hallway. Builder or damp inspector?

Who should we get to investigate a new damp smell in our Victorian hallway? I don?t want to get scammed or ripped off. We suspect floorboards or that might be coming from the next door neighbour?scc be wall.

If nothing else, he?ll demonstrate the ignorance / fraudulent behaviours of some ?damp specialists? (and I?m not saying that applies to anyone offering services on EDF).

I have also recently had a damp smell in my house.

My cellar is dry, so I have no idea where it is coming from.

My neighbour has the same problem.

It might be worth buying a moisture meter, which would help you see where the damp is ,and where it has the highest readings. Make sure you get one that will measure the correct material. Ie don't buy one for timber if its for solid walls. Always best to have some idea yourself.

Peter Ward talks about damp meters and how ?experts? reliance on them / use of them can be illogical.

I'm no longer an expert, but a damp meter is a useful tool to have. Its also good to check how things dry out. Often misused its true.
