WARNING WARNING PLEASE BE VERY AWARE Old Kent Road Tesco?s ATM. Dear neighbours I?m writing this post to warn you all about getting cash out of theATMS at Tesco old Kent road. Unfortunately yesterday that was exactly what I did to my cost, it was abt 3.30-4pm I put my card in and tapped my pin I am always very aware of people around me but 3 men came out of nowhere and surrounded me trying to tell me that the machine didn?t work and it takes your card as one was shouting at me from one side one of the others came up

behind me and the other to the other side of me waving papers shouting it?s not working but I heard him press the cancel button I started shouting back off get away from me but they had already taken my bank card luckily I was able to freeze my card before he even left the car park but one of the others tried to stay around and delay me from what I was doing saying if you put your birthday year in it will give you your card back ?? did make me smile as if I was that silly they were trying to get my pin. I was aware and able to stop them from getting any money straight away but please please be very careful if you have to use those ATMS even Tesco?s tell you not to use them!!!

Kim B Report it to 111 with the time and location. As I wrote below I?ve encountered them and they?re aggressive. The thought of them doing it to someone vulnerable- and it?s mostly vulnerable people on their own who?ll get taken in. Those guys are really vile scumbags.

They sound like guys I encountered at the post office ATM on Southwark Park Road. The description matches. A few years ago when the Santander bank was open I got my card taken by the same scam. Luckily my bank refunded the money. At the time I even thanked the guy! It didn?t occur to me that having a scarf over your face might mean something wasn?t right.

When the guys at the post office did the same thing I turned around and really looked at them. Then I asked them to back away and took my money out. If you hit the cancel button that?s how they end up with your card.

It really sounds like the same guys as they were shouty and one was aggressive.

It?s a good reminder for us all to be vigilant though and look around us. Coming up to Christmas I?m sure all of the crooks are going to be out! I?m pleased you?re ok though. I was a bit shaken encountering them. You?ve suddenly got three guys yelling at you and trying to confuse you. Thanks for letting us know. They must do some kind of circuit.

Frances Ma I never thought to report it as didn?t think they could do much but I will report it because as someone said the police could set up a decoy. It seems to be what they think are vulnerable women they go for. If I can do something to help stop it I will.

I had a similar experience to yours, Kim B, some months ago at the Lloyds branch on Camberwell Green. They don't sound like the same perpetrators but it's a common enough attempt for getting your cash. I am not a small guy -- I shouldered them out of the way ....

    • Sadly I think you will never convince people like this. They think gardens have to be kept chopped back and controlled. My theory is that this comes from being (or trying to be) controlling in every aspect of their lives, so I doubt if anything you could say or show them would have any effect. But are they actually coming into your garden or leaning over into it and pulling up/damaging things? If so, maybe one of our community police people could have a word with them?
    • Dear Nature lovers - advice please. I am being harassed by a neighbour who doesn't like my standard of gardening which she calls 'messy'. (I have rewilded my garden with advice from the London Wildlife Trust and a gardening expert from The Times.) I have twice caught this neighbour and her husband pulling up my plants and damaging my trees. Plus she has photographed my house, and sent a dozen complaints to the Dulwich Estate about my plan to rewild the verge outside my property - approved by the Estate some 4 years ago in line with their stated policy of supporting biodiversity in and around Dulwich. What can I do to introduce these neighbours  to the benefits to us all of returning a portion of our gardens to nature?
    • Have you tried Southwark's leisure centres? As a regular attendee at Peckham, Camberwell, The Castle and speaking to friends, the dance routines for all ages are similar to Silver ones. In addition Natty, Bianca and Isac are brilliant instructors.
    • I've been there for lunch a few times and the home cooked asian food (as part of Sweat Dreams cafe) is genuinely great and a must try. I think the food side of the business has been slow to be noticed but people are now realising what is actually hidden in plain sight.  As for the Aroma Lab coffee ... it is excellent, they are very welcoming and friendly (and unpretentious!). This Australian coffee snob is mightily impressed!!
