James Barber
Hi Sue,Planning meetings are during the evening. They use to largely be local but now centred on council HQ at 160 Tooley Street, SE1. Quite close to London Bridge station. So no reason why licensing meetings in theory couldnt be during the evening unless the license applicant is more importants than residents. Te former tend to be a tiny team at most and the latter tend to be many more when contentious. The trouble is the system is already slanted to favour applicants. The burden of proof is residents proving something will cause harm - a complete reversal of the pre Tessa Jowell 2003 licensing law.To make it even more painful you have to register at least a week in advance that you're going to go. Hardly a publci meeting. The obvious thing to do is hld meetings in the day or evening dependant upon the people expressing an interest. If no one is interested use a daytime meeting. IF people have expressed an interest hold it in the evening or a Saturday preferably in the area involved. the-e-dealer
Most Officer's working hours include evening meetings.Licensing often used to be in the evening especially if local residents had concerns. Not sure when it changed. Lord knows why so many meetings are at Tooley Street. James Barber
Hi Southerner39,Then why have they applied for this? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/29747-lordship-lane-co-op-wants-to-open-237/page/7/#findComment-633942 Share on other sites
UncleBen
Well said Sue. To sell food past 11pm you need a licence-reason 1. Reason 2. They are extending their hours of trade including the selling of alcohol. No mystery. I think it will be detrimental to the area but much less so than local bars such as Adventure that already have their licence and so I won't object. franki_k
I don't think anything that potentially brings a little convenience to people's lives can be a wholly bad thing, and while I recognise the argument that it may mean more noise for the residents, I suspect the volume of anticipated added 'traffic' to the store is probably being somewhat exaggerated... Michael Palaeologus
All too often these planning decisions, or rather the arguments of the anti's, get mixed with party politics. Thus if you are not in power you don't want anything beneficial to be agreed by those that are in power. Thus you think up allot of spurious guff about more noise, more drunks emigrating into the area and more road-train sized lorries on the Lane. This excites the easily led and you canter in as their saviour. Again.Wake up people!! the-e-dealer
No they don't you are wrong. The Liberals Never opposed anything that would benefit the Borough and neither did the Labour party. ianr
From Appendix C of the associated papers linked to by James:"The above application is not for a 24 hours alcohol licence. It is for the sale of alcohol to start from 6am instead of 7am in themorning and finish at the current time which is 23.00. It also has a request to to include late night refreshment till 05.00.The premises intends to be open 24hours and technically licensing does not have jurisdiction on these, however commentscan be made on the licensable activities stated above.kind regardsDorcas MillsPrincipal Licensing Officer Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/29747-lordship-lane-co-op-wants-to-open-237/page/7/#findComment-647552 Share on other sites

Romnarz
If the coop are daft enough to think that people are stupid and want to shop 24/7 then let them. I cant see there being a huge number of cars fighting for a parking place at 2 am.Most big supermarkets have stopped all hours opening because there was NOT enough demand. Lin Henden
For gods sake give us a bit of peace at night! The crossing outside the Bishop goes ding, ding, ding roughly about every 5 seconds until late in the evening. Can we get a silencer fitted for after 11pm?
