Recommendations Wanted - Venue to host an older persons Christmas Tea Group

I volunteer for Re-engage (formerly Contact the Elderly) and I'm on the look

out for a Sunday afternoon venue where we could host a Christmas Tea party for

a group of elderly guests.

Previously they've hired community centres/ meeting spaces with kitchen facilities etc, but

it sounds like those venues are no longer available.

I would be really grateful for any ideas.

You could try the cricket club just past the entrance to the woods opposite the old Grove Tavern?

They have a good sized club room with toilets and I believe a kitchen though I'm not sure about the kitchen.

Nice friendly people running it (last time I was there anyway!) and it's convenient for buses.

    • Thanks very much for that.   I think the better informed we are, the better our discussions will be. The article contained: "That arrest had quite an impact on the [phone theft] numbers for the following month,” said Green.  Here's another indicator, admittedly a piece of police PR,  of how well-targeted police efforts, mostly invisible to us,  can when successful  seriously affect offending figures: https://news.met.police.uk/news/met-police-drive-down-theft-and-robbery-by-84-percent-in-battersea-and-nine-elms-500495.
    • Another excellent article from Jim Waterson's London Centric reporting https://www.londoncentric.media/p/kitchen-foil-and-algerian-markets?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email Interesting that there seem to be favoured and repeated routes for phone snatching for particular thieves.  Seems ED might be one of them ☹️
    • Anywhere near the Overground/Windrush due to its excellent transport links.  You will get larger place in SE23 for example that will give you enough spare cash for private school if that's what you really want but states schools generally good, reflecting the demographic  Easy to get to the bustling streets of East Dulwich but in ten years see what happens to Forest Hill centre.  The whole of the area is full of green spaces. Access to East Croydon for days out in the South Coast
