Hi all, has anyone been up to the shop French Tacos near Denmark Hill Station?

They have become a favourite of ours but sorry to say I was electrocuted twice in their shop on Saturday!!! (Once through my hand by touching the doorknob to the shop, and once when I walked through the metal doorframe through both of my feet).

As was a deliveroo driver in front of us! Apparently it happens alot according to delivery drivers there at the time.

Ambulance came, all clear, but I have black charring on my feet from electrical burns and potential nerve damage in my hand.

I hate to denigrate a small business but please be careful while they fix up whatevers happening.

We reported them to the council but as ever they are being slow and trying to kick the can to other authorities. They said they would try to send an Enforcemrnt Officer but there's a backlog (eye roll) so I really pushed them to prioritise it.

Please take care.

That is a bad situation - poor you. It sounds very dangerous so good on you for pushing the council. I am sure the local newspapers would be interested in this - as would your councillor and MP (writetothem is a place to find who they are and get their contact details). Good luck for a full recovery (and/or compensation for your injuries).

Thank you. Southwark News are interested. Councillors haven't responded despite a couple of emails. May I ask who the Mayor is, or are there any particular Councillors who are active and might be worth contacting?

I won't be suing / looking for compensation as I don't believe in doing that to small businesses, especially after covid19. They just need to fix it.

If you had been electrocuted you would be dead.

I think you are talking about an electro-statick shock?

Is this thread for real? Obviously you have never worked in a 1990s office with nylon carpets, every time you touched a metal filing cabinet you'd jump. One colleague would charge himself up by rubbing his sole against the carpet then put a finger near your nose and the spark would jump, like a spark plug in a car.

Earlier generations would have nylon night wear and sheets, you can imagine all the crackles and sparks between couples at night.

You don't get black charring on your feet with an electrostatic shock, do you?

OP is the shop owned or leased? If leased, surely the landlord is responsible.

Have you tried asking the Citizens' Advice Bureau if the council environmental health department is not being helpful?

I thought static shock al la Marks and Sparks - but charring of body

A shock doesn't always kill you - I remember my dad being thrown across the room after drilling into a cable long before we all checked before drilling - it can have potential after effects.

100% right. Happened to me a couple of times attempting amateur domestic electrics. Quite painful though!!

What you got was an electric shock. Electrocution means your dead.

    • This is simply untrue. The area is not 2/3 storeys maximum. Hambledon Court is on the other side of tracks from the Jewson site on Burrow Rd, is 8 storeys, and is barely known (let alone bothersome) to most people in East Dulwich. Felbridge House, Petworth House etc on the opposite side of the station from the new development are all 5 storeys tall. East Dulwich Charter (which neighbours the new development) is itself 4-5 storeys (depending on which block you're talking about). What's more, Hambledon Court was finished in about 1978 iirc and no-one has built anything similar around here since then - so the "slippery slope" "genie in the bottle" argument doesn't work either. You can't simultaneously argue that Southwark is too slow in approving new construction but also suggest this will lead to a flood of new high-rise housing! At current rates of approval, we can expect our next 8 storey building to arrive in...2072!
    • I checked - the Hanway Street place was Mandeer - it moved to New Oxford Street I think and was replaced by Hakkasan - very different prices.
    • Suppose it depends on how many Christmas cards from family and friends you’re waiting to receive. It’s been the Christmas period so surely give the post delivery service some leeway. Like Sue I’ve not posted off so many this year but some I still write letters to  e.g my late mum’s cousins and other family  but hey ho that’s something I do and enjoy.  I used to hand deliver Christmas cards to a lot of neighbours on my street but gave up this year as realised that most of them I don’t see or speak to and can only count on a few to call a true friend or neighbour.
