Gerry - Plumber WARNING

I can NOT recommend that you hire Gerry as your plumber.

Reading the many recommendations here I hired Gerry twice. The first time was fine; the second time was in December last year, to remove a radiator from my upstairs room. There was nothing wrong with the radiator, we were redecorating and needed to fix the wall. Next day, I noticed the capped radiator pipe was leaking and called him. He said not to worry - I should 'wrap a towel around it' and would come the next day. I was up most of the night changing towels and newspaper to control the leak. He came the next morning, fixed the capped pipe by tightening the seal and I showed him the water damage to the ceiling of the room below. He said he would get his decorator to look at it. When he returned to put the radiator back on I again showed him the water damage again, and he promised he would get his decorator to remedy it in the New Year. I believed he was genuine. Now, more than a month later he has not responded to text or phone calls and it appears he has blocked me. In contacting a few people here on the forum to get some contact information for him or his company I find they also only have his first name and number. The repairs are going to cost me around ?400 if I am lucky. I am literally shocked. If anyone has any information, please contact me. I believe his surname is McCormack. I am attaching a photo of the damage I am left with. Please proceed with caution.

Sorry to hear you've had such a horrible experience.

If you need a reliable painter/decorator to sort out the damage from the leak I can highly recommend Mark from MJB Painter and Decorators. I've used them many times and they have always been extremely reliable, professional and high standard of finish to all jobs. Give Mark a call on 07506 047721 and I'm sure he'll be happy to provide a quote. Best wishes. Kathy

jrussell geezer sounds a knob. have a go yourself get a tin of stainblock paint also comes in a spray.the paint about ?25 the spray about ?15 couple of coats should do it .if you need to paint all the ceiling with emulsion ad another ?20 a lot better than ?400.

    • I am keeping my fingers crossed the next few days are not so loud. I honestly think it is the private, back garden displays that are most problematic as, in general, there is no way of knowing when and where they might happen. For those letting off a few bangers in the garden I get it is tempting to think what's the harm in a few minutes of 'fun', but it is the absolute randomness of sudden bangs that can do irreparable damage to people and animals. With organised events that are well advertised there is some forewarning at least, and the hope is that organisers of such events can be persuaded to adopt and make a virtue of using only low noise displays in future.
    • There was an excellent discussion on Newscast last night between the BBC Political Editor, the director of the IFS and the director of More In Common - all highly intelligent people with no party political agenda and far more across their briefs than any minister I've seen in years. The consensus was that Labour are so unpopular and untrusted by the electorate already, as are the Conservatives, that breaking the manifesto pledge on income tax wouldn't drive their approval ratings any lower, so they should, and I quote, 'Roll The Dice', hope for the best and see where we are in a couple of years time. As a strategy, i don't know whether I find that quite worrying or just an honest appraisal of what most governments actually do in practice.
    • They are a third of the way through their term Earl. It's no good blaming other people anymore. They only have three years left to fix what is now their own mess. And its not just lies in the manifesto. There were lies at the last budget too, when they said that was it, they weren't coming back for more tax and more borrowing. They'd already blamed the increase in NIC taxes on what they claimed was a thorough investigation. They either knew everything then or they lied about that too .   They need to stop lying and start behaving. If they don't the next government won't be theirs, it will be led by Nigel Farage.  They have to turn it round rapidly. Blaming other people, telling lies and breaking promises isn't going to cut it any more.
