Article today in the Southwark News 'Astounding number of birds sighted in Burgess Park in 2021' Because of the parks open spaces and lake settings there have been over 85 species of birds visiting the park, some coming from as far away as Siberia and Africa.

A frequent visitor was the Peregrine Falcon, which can often be seen flying over the park looking for their next meal.

I've got to know a lot of birds in my garden, including the humble Wood Pigeon and would hate to see the video.

I wonder if the peregrine falcon in Burgess Park was one of the pair who nest on the Salvation Army tower at Denmark Hill.

I went for a tour with the resident orthnithologist at the Battersea Tower Station development recently. They had to build a lattice tower (v expensive) as a temporary nest for the pair of peregrines there, until the building work is complete...they have raised their chicks on there for a few years but are going to be relocated back to the tower building very soon.

If they decide to sit on a crane, work has to stop!

Their main diet is pigeons and parakeets.

    • Welcome back. What have voting intentions got to do with this thread? And much as you may hate the present incarnation of so-called Labour, as do I,  I don't think it is true that they have "not done a single positive thing for working class people", is it? And how exactly are you defining "working class people", anyway?
    • I can’t bear the media “is this racist comment racist” angle taken to reporting it. I feel like she’s a useful out rider for Farage to test how far they can take their rhetoric - it’s not the first time she’s said things that cross over the line. Overt racism is becoming far more commonplace and it’s deeply concerning.
    • Dear families,  I am exploring the idea of starting a casual, low cost Mandarin club for children in the area. This would be a fun,play-based introduction to the language and culture for young learners. Before I organize anything,  I wanted to see if there is any interest! If you might be interested, could you please reply to this post or PM with  1. Your child’s age.  2.What kind of format you’d prefer( A. weekly playgroup, B after-school club,  C. weekend session) Even a simple”interested!”  helps. This is just a preliminary survey.  No commitment.
