Are we to be subjected to months and months of disruption as road works consume East Dulwich. Is this the price to pay for "biker" Thomas? Or, shoudl that be "digger" Richard? East Dulwcih may as well be cut off from the rest of the whold now that we are surrounded by 22 weeks of chaotic, ill-planned and un-managed digging. Southwark Council needs to take a stand like Lambeth and the City of Westminster and demand that these utilites cause minimum disruption.

Gallery Road, Coldharbour Lane, Lordship Lane, Streatham High Road, Croxted Road, Camberwell Grove, and that is just the tip of the iceberg!!! Is Government trying to cut us off from public transport or just has it just got a cruel sense of humour and gets a mean laugh out of making sure we all have to get up an hour early just to try to get to work!! All three candiates for Mayor for/of London seem to think transport is an issue. Will Boris, Ken or Brian defend East Dulwich? What c"hange for the better? East Dulwich used to have three Labour Councillors, it has a Labour Assembly Member, a Green Assembly Jenny nearby and Southwark Council pretends to actually be managed and even "run" by the Liberal Socialistas and Kim Humperdernickels. Can't imagine anything will get better unless we get rid of them all! Where are the people, this may as well be East Zimbabwe!! Did I mention Camberwell Grove! Was it 6 months, a year, two years or never! How many times do we have to hear the train service is to be cut?

Why can't we have a Council that actually defends us and is not afraid to stand up for the people? Why do we have to put up with one star incompetence in just about every aspect of life? Why does it take 8 years to just to replace a broken window on the Dog Kennel Hill Estate? Why to people shoot each other in Peckham? Why to we put up with life in this hell called South (Camberwell) East (Dulwich) London?

Do we have a say in anything? Seems none of our elected politicans have a anything real to say and it seems far too much to ask they they are actually allowed to influence those who dicate chaos for our lives! So why should we worry about the chaos on our streets? Isn't it just the rule that we let people who tick the boxes, meet the targets and sit back on nice pensions make our life a living hell?

    • London doesn’t have a lot of Argentinian places specialising in empanadas, which suggests demand isn’t that great. There are many neighbourhoods with none at all or even nearby.  So for a mini-chain like Chango (several branches in SW London) to open here where there’s already a well established family run place doing the same feels a bit off.  I’ll be giving Chacarero my ongoing custom.
    • This is so helpful, everyone, thank you. @green bean Yes we have just (as of yesterday) installed the same external blinds you mention! We already had blackout blinds and we now have the external awnings too. Of course that will guarantee the end of the summer sunshine but I can see that they're going to be helpful as they let the light through but not the glare of the sun - I'm fed up of working in darkness with both the blackout blinds closed on sunny days. We'll see how we go with those for a bit but I reckon we'll get a couple of quotes from the other recommendations in case we end up going the whole hog. @penfold Love the idea of getting solar+batteries to offset the electricity usage so will look into that.  Thanks, all.
    • Yes Sally, I've emailed him several times since Xmas. I don't contact Councillors frequently but when I've done so over the years, I've found them generally engaged and responsive. It's unprecedented to just be ignored and, regardless of the query I'm raising, that's worrying from the point of view of  our local democratic voice. Its a Councillors role to represent local people! A different thread on here made reference to a lack of response from one of our ward councillors and, since there are only two, I'm guessing it's the same one. I'm following up my own concern separately but I'm asking on here about whether others have had the same problem. I'd like to think it's a one-off but, increasingly, I suspect it's not. Hope that gives a bit more context!
