Hello all. My son did not get any of his 6 secondary school choices and I am mortified. The council assigned us Ark Globe Academy yet the school is far away and we do not know lots about it.

Could anyone give any advise on what I could do or tell me about their experiences with the school or opinions. I understand it is part of the ARK group as well?

Hi - I'm afraid I don't know anything about that school, but just wanted to say that you can add him to wait lists of other schools that are closer if you didn't include them in your original 6 schools. I believe that you contact the schools directly and ask to be added to their wait lists (hopefully someone who's done that can give you clear advice).

There is usually movement on waiting lists between now and September and whilst no one can confirm whether spaces at your preferred schools will become available, I understand that by adding yourself to additional wait lists (eg if you'd prefer Deptford Green or somewhere like that but didn't add it originally for example) this wouldn't mean that you'd be moved off the other wait lists you were placed on for your preferred schools.

You could also call up your preferred schools and find out where you are on their wait list to understand the likelihood of a place.

    • Thanks penguin  always wondered about that place and that’s way more info than I ever thought I would get  (used to live above a gun nut on friern road - he would tell me nothing)
    • There was a Saturday afternoon crowd of enthusiasts, and at other times the owner might have been off acquiring stock. He also repaired air guns, which he also sold. He stocked edged weapons, uniforms, including antique uniforms, air guns and ammo and starting pistols and shot. Some medals and other militaria. Quite a lot of ex service chit chat on a Saturday. I had an amateur interest, didn't deal a lot, in English pattern swords and other mainly 19th century militaria. And made some good purchases there. I'm afraid WWII and later events was the major focus of most of the regulars.
    • Did anyone actually venture in to that place? I recall it always being closed/very uninviting!
