Hamster breeder?

Hi. We have a new forum for Hamster owners (and prospective hamster owners) - it includes a list of authorised Uk hamster breeders registered with the National Hamster Council :-). It also lists hamster rescue sites. Do have a look at our forum as there are a lot of care articles and suggestions for cages, taming and all sorts on there :-) Plus we're a friendly bunch if you want to post on the forum with any queries. Some very experienced owners on there. It's https://www.thehamsterforum.com

Be very careful if you see anyone calling themselves a breeder. If they're not registered with the NHC they may not be following good breeding practices. Good breeding practices mean there is a genetic history and good genetic pairings to avoid genetic predisposition to illness and disease. Having said that, Syrian hamsters tend to be generally healthy and many pet shop hamsters are perfectly healthy and live long lives (sadly others don't). We think it's better to adopt or get from a registered breeder.

Aside from that, there is a Syrian breeder in London called Tuftyfluffs - she has a Facebook page but apparently is a bit slow in replying. She usually has litters though.

    • I was amazed to see a young nuthatch crawling headfirst down a the trunk of a tree in my garden to bully the great tits and blue tits off the bird feeders yesterday.  Didn't expect to see one this far from the woods.
    • some titles are "protected" ie you have to have certain qualifications and be registered with the supervising council https://www.hcpc-uk.org/about-us/who-we-regulate/the-professions/ Dietician is registered and protected Nutricionist is neither. Anyone can claim to be a nutricionist or chiropracter etc
    • It didn't occur to me to ask. No idea if dieticians are employed within the NHS. It is just one line of enquiry among others. The GP mentioned it, not me.
    • I thought the most they sell in terms of hot food at londis is like pastries and sausage rolls and for hot drinks its like costa coffee but its always a convenience store. Doesn’t look too bad in my opinion considering that shop has been closed down ever since i moved here
