walkingtall
A lorry delivering to the crown and greyhound pub three times a week leaves its engine running for approximately 30 minutes each timeFrom 6.45-7.15 am normally It?s a refrigerated unit but surely this is not necessary it has to be against the law Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/305383-engine-running/ Share on other sites
Nigello
I also have noticed this and spoke (nicely) to a driver at least six months ago who said that was the way it had to be to keep the refrigeration going, so I took him at face value. Could be a different driver this time but the management at the pub ought to be informed. (Please contact them as you are the one to have witnessed most recently; you may be able to bring about a change for the good.) intexasatthe moment
I wonder if the engine really does have to be left running ? I can't see why the driver would lie but on the other hand ,it seems many don't require this .And is Dulwich Village really in East Dulwich ? Should this be in the lounge ? lameduck
Why does it not run 24 hours a day thenwhat happens at 6 pm when driver leaves workdoes it have to plug in somewhere?I know lots with freezer units, greengrocersthey park up for 12 hours or so, turn off.only ones I know that run all the time are ice cream vans Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/305383-engine-running/#findComment-1570408 Share on other sites
Sue
lameduck Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Why does it not run 24 hours a day thenPresumably because it doesn't carry things which need refrigeration 24 hours a day.Once the driver has made all his/her calls, the engine can be switched off until the lorry is due to be loaded up again ? walkingtall
Thank you for your reply?sI?ve actually watched the driver unload and there are plastic blinds behind the door he pushes these aside takes the boxes out and puts them on a trolley. He could then close the door keeping it cold, my wife spends more time with the freezer door open than he does there?s absolutely no reason to leave the engine running The funny thing is I live 300 yards within the road closures in Dulwich Village and often have to make a 45 minute journey to get home then the 30 seconds it would take me to get home Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/305383-engine-running/#findComment-1570453 Share on other sites
Dogkennelhillbilly
The truck is also usually parked across the pavement 🙄Freezer trucks are (often) hooked up to electrical power overnight so they don't need to leave engines running if they need to be kept cold. creditwheredue
Happy to see all the above posters boycott the pub as a result, anything to get served quicker in there helps. malumbu
You'd need to boycott all businesses that leave their engines running, rightly or wrongly, schools where their vehicles and those of the parents are left running, the police often leave their vehicles running etc etcA serious issue, I've intervened many a time, but your time will be better spent lobbying the pub, government, local authority etc... Bob Buzzard
Don?t they have to pay a green levy for this? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/305383-engine-running/#findComment-1570946 Share on other sites
walkingtall
On Tuesday morning the same lorry turned up but this time turned his engine off. So do I assume that the first one pollutes our lungs and the second one upset our stomachs ?
