On Thursday 5th May we once again went to the polls to vote for the administration of our local council.

Did you vote for the previous administration???

Did you change the way you voted?

Are you happy with the outcome in Southwark?

I sometimes vote Lib dem but not very often, Trinidad.

I would have probably voted Labour but the CPZ debacle followed by the LTNs and their obstinate refusals to listen to actual people who live here made it impossible. I also don't believe the current lot do anything for us at all and I remember how hard James Barber worked in comparison.

Waseley, Labour haven?t had a National record since 2009.

They have had a local record here in East Dulwich though and it is not good. Not good at all.

I can see why you would want to try to distract people from that but local Labour councillors will have to answer for it ultimately.

One thing I am aware of is that This neighborhood has better support services than others, particularly around mental health. There are walk-in hubs for children and services for adults. I don't know of many other boroughs that have this, nor whether they are also Labour wards. I'm not suggesting they are perfect, but mental health is a very pressing issue for most people are affected by it in some way.

I certainly won't be voting Conservative

Ruby Fuller was a local 19 year old, former head girl of the Charter School, who died at home obeying the lockdown rules, while Johnston and Sunak broke them, and then lied about it.

    • We used to feed the birds, but once the parakeets discovered this they just took over, scaring away all the other species and eating everything in sight. I tried scaring them away with a Nerf gun, but they just didn't care. I know it will open a can of worms (no pun intended) but I really think  the parakeet population needs to be reduced; yes they are pretty, but they are just like a plague of locusts when it comes to food supplies.  PS apologies for pedantry @malumbu but the true definition of "decimate" is to reduce by a tenth... 🫤
    • If anyone is going to the meetings above, you may wish to raise the issue of the impact of the lights, noise & activity on the local bat population. Gala commissioned a survey on bat activity, which stated that activity had been identified, with several species detected, and that action must be taken to minimise any disturbance to these legally protected species. One of the recommendations was "to limit artificial lighting and reduce noise levels starting at least 20 minutes before sunset throughout the event period"  I asked the Events Team three months ago whether this recommendation had been implemented. I finally got an answer yesterday - "This recommendation was not achievable due to the nature of the event... it was concluded that not implementing this recommendation would have little impact"  So there you have it. Commission a survey (box ticked) and then don't adhere to the findings because it's "not achievable", thereby wilfully and knowingly negatively affecting the foraging & commuting habits of a legally protected wildlife species. This is on top of the useless bird survey, which only takes into account activity within the walls of the site, not the surrounding area which is full of trees with nesting birds which are undoubtedly disturbed by a month of noise, lights & activity.
    • Really good service. Good bread. And very accommodating when we had to outwit our clever resident fox.
    • ...and so, 4 years on from the "dramatic planning meeting" that approved the "meganursery", how has it all worked out in reality? The building looks nice from the outside - but I don't know anything more. Did either of the nursery businesses on EDG fail because there was no demand for nursery places in East Dulwich? Did Carmageddon on East Dulwich Grove get worse? Were pre-COVID work patterns abandoned forever (lol)? Were some of the concerns expressed in opposition to the planning application a teensy bit overblown...? https://southwarknews.co.uk/area/southwark/mega-nursery-approved-amid-dramatic-planning-meeting/
