Hi everyone, a friend is looking for a sponsor for a 26 year old girl called Maria, who is a Ukrainian currently in Poland. In fact, Maria does not need a bedroom, as she will stay with my friend.

However, the form requires sponsors to say they have a spare room (and I understand that the council checks these rooms - though whether they actually have the resources to do so I do not know). We would like to be her sponsor but we can't as it is obvious that our house has no spare bedroom.

Is anyone able to be Maria's sponsor? It is not a normal sponsorship request because Maria would not actually need to live with you.

Maria is very friendly, very fun, she likes jokes and is very open. Her English is not great but she is always finding ways to express herself anyway. She likes running, reading books, visiting new museums and making fun plans.

It would be so good if we could help her.

Here is the Govt guidance: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/homes-for-ukraine-scheme-frequently-asked-questions

Thanks! Pm me if you can help or might know someone who can.

hi - I agree it's so important to be careful. I set this out quite badly!

In this instance it's our 26 yr old cleaner who wants to bring her best friend over to live with her. Our cleaner doesn't have a spare room so a sponsor application from her would fail. Nor do we have a spare room.

So her friend Maria needs a formal sponsor to get here, but clearly she would rather live with her best friend than with a stranger family. Especially as she speaks no English. I don't know if that arrangement constitutes immigration fraud or not, but it feels reasonable to me.

    • It took the Tories 14 years to dig that 20bn blackhole. It's taken Labour 14 months to double it.  You cant get rid of Reeves though because the next person will actually be totally incompetent. There are no MPs in Labour capable of performing better than the current shower.
    • Thanks P. That sounds like a bargain compared to other horror stories I've heard!
    • DD, "Rejoice rejoice. It's a pity he and his fellow clowns were completely annihilated at the ballot box. I mean they were doing so well after all 🙃🙃" At least the economy and unemployment weren't in the mess they are now. What is it, give the public sector a whopping pay increase with no strings attached, double the black hole and then blame it on the last Govt. Give me strength. Rachel from accounts shouldn't be anywhere near the economy. The final straw was increasing employer NI contributions and look how that's worked out. Month on month both inflation and unemployment have risen. Won't be long before inflation and u/e are exceeding 5%, but guess what, They'll blame Sunak and go.  Lets have a snap election right NOW, then see how poorly Starmer, Reeves and Rainer do. They're already plotting to get rid of Starmer, and if you think its bad now, you ain't seen nothing yet. Oh and did I mention Starmer wanting to stop Freedom of Speech............................................Normal people can see right through what him and co are doing, great at spending other peoples money, him and co don't have = bankruptcy. We'll just repeat the economic collapse that happened in Greece and wasn't it in Italy as well?
    • One of the best of Shakespeare 's plays.  I did Othello for A level. Also seen a number of stage and film versions. Is there any specific aspects of the play that is difficult for your daughter to understand?
