Is there anyone who can help with this, as it's really annoying (and yes, I have googled and posting here is my last resort).

The vertical scroll bar has disappeared. I have no idea why. I am having to use the up/down and page up/page down keys to move up and down documents.

The "show vertical scroll bar" is ticked in the Word settings. I have tried unticking it then ticking it again, and that didn't work.

I have no idea what I might have done to cause this. It has only happened in the last couple of weeks. I've tried reducing the screen size in case the scroll bar had somehow disappeared from view off to the right, but that didn't work either.

All suggestions gratefully received!

And just to repeat, I have googled!!! However I accept I may have missed something vital!

Yes, mine must have been set to "on" as well before the scroll bars disappeared, as I never even knew that setting existed and I would have had no reason to change it from what it was.

I usually use a separate keyboard and mouse with my laptop, but lately because I had it in a different room I have been using the touchpad, and I'm wondering if it's something I've accidentally done with that.

It's a Dell.

Nope, just had a look at the touchpad settings and there's nothing I can see that could possibly have caused the scroll bars to disappear.

Okay

Next step

In Word

Click File > Options.

On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Display section.

Select Show horizontal scroll bar and Show vertical scroll bar, and then click OK.

If that doesn't help

Step 3

On the Title bar in Word click Word.

Click Preferences, and then click View.

Make sure you have selectec Horizontal scroll bar and Vertical scroll bar and then close the dialog.

Thanks, I had already done the first part, but I've looked again and they are both ticked, and I've clicked OK again, but no joy.

I can't see anywhere to click "Word" on the title bar, at least I can but nothing happens.

Not sure what you mean by the rest. I can't see "preferences" anywhere.

There's a "view" option, but this doesn't bring up anything relating to the scroll bars. Nor does anything else that I can see on any of the menus.

Thanks.

It's nothing to do with the position of the mouse, that doesn't change anything.

The maximise/restore suggestion doesn't bring back the scroll bar.

I will try the "repair Office" option.

ETA: That hasn't worked either

Right clicking brings up restore (greyed out), move, minimise, maximise or close .....

Word looks different to usual when I have a document open. Could it have somehow updated??

I have just discovered that if I have an accessibility window open (which I've never seen before) a vertical scroll bar comes up to the left of it with which I can scroll up and down the document.

This makes no sense to me whatsoever ......

Don't think so but I will check! I would have no reason to be in web layout, in fact I've never heard of it!

Not read the whole thread so may of missed this if already posted...

Why does my vertical scroll bar disappear?

Using your browser's magnification or zoom controls may cause scroll bars to disappear.

Observe this phenomenon by opening a Web page and pressing "Ctrl- " repeatedly.

Your actions cause the page's content to shrink in size.

So do you need to use "Ctrl- " repeatedly.

Sorry about that.. My Mistake but this may Help..

Foxy

Foxy, if you read the thread you will see that what is shown in the video was the first thing I checked.

You will also see that I tried the control +/-.

Thank you for trying to help, but unfortunately this is not as simple as it looks, and obviously I had googled before posting on here.

    • There are plenty of Jewish people on these marches, who have every right to stand up and say not in our name. A Jewish bloc attends every single one: https://jfjfp.com/voices/jjp-at-the-gaza-demonstrations/ Jewish peoples lives are being made less safe by this war, as we recently saw in Manchester and in the clear increase in antisemitism. They want to see Peace, and this will only happen with justice for the Palestinians. Most have - within living memory - members of their families who have been murdered by an authoritarian regime. They know what they are seeing and why they are marching. Calling going on march 'indulging in Jew hatred' is just ridiculous. You've clearly never been on one.
