I wonder if the two ladies walking along Lyndhurst Way on Tuesday 2nd who saw the older gentleman tell me to "f*** off", get back in his car and drive away after reversing into my motorbike because he'd obviously pulled out too early from Lyndhurst Grove are reading this?

If so, could you give me your numbers please, as they both appear not to be recognised?

You said you were Bridget and Miranda?

Similarly would the friendly chap called "Martin" sitting on the wall just up Lyndhurst Way who saw the rude gentleman flee the scene without passing on his details please contact me? Your phone number also appears not to be listed.

To anyone else (and myself), here's the tip: Call any witness on their phone the moment they give it to you.

Sorry to hear about this.

Do you know it is actually quite difficult to be a witness. I once saw a van clatter into another parked van. I noted down the reg and company details of the van that had done the clattering and set about knocking on doors until I found the owner of the parked damaged van and then gave him my details and those of the fleeing van. Owner very grateful. Months later his insurance firm called me and asked me to re-confirm the reg of the van that had done the damage - I didn't have it as I had passed the piece of paper to the owner. As I couldn't separately verify the reg details, I was discounted as a witness.

I also had someone run into the back of my car when I was quite heavily pregnant. There were plenty of people stood around and as I stumbled out of my car in shock all came to see if I was ok but noone would give their details as a witness. Luckily the other driver apologised immediately and accepted full responsibility and all was ok.

The worst case of this I know of happened about 12 years ago when a young man was subjected to an unprovoked serious attack (broken hand, broken cheek bone and a tooth went through the cheek) outside the pub almost opposite the Mirash near Goose Green. A young man at the scene said he was a nurse and in all seriousness gave his details and the details of the perp to the police and they all proved to be false. These people are worse than low.

What had happened to the piece of paper? If it was still in existence, did the insurance company know that it was a record made by you immediately after seeing the incident?

    • If it was limited to a couple of days a year, so we all knew, that would be fine. In the last few years (and it is a recent thing) you get random fireworks going off any time after dusk for half the year. It does more than cause problems for pets and wildlife- it can mean lasting damage and massive expense and hassle for pet owners. All because some get a buzz out of loud bangs.
    • Ohh dear.  Fireworks can be great fun.  Where I used to live the kids would have firework wars/games.  Watching them was more enjoyable than watching  TV. (Which you could hardly hear due to the pops and bangs).  It's not like anyone/anything could stop them. I would still prefer organised public displays that are affordable.   And I agree that fireworks cause problems for wild life, pets and people.   It seems to be one of those things that just happens so we have to put up with it.  But it is still not as problematic here as in other areas in London - that's for sure.
