I recently had a new loft ladder installed by Steve who was very polite and helpful. The product was of high quality and he boarded the loft floor out and I have more storage which makes all the difference. Highly recommended Thanks  his contact details are 07943181617

I can highly recommend Graham, who unlike Steve specialises in lofts.

Bit of an admiration society you three have going for Steve (who seems to do everything) and Richard (electrician) there I see :)

ETA: In fact, ejay, you've given Richard's mobile number instead of Steve's.

OOOPS :))

ETA: Now corrected, I see ....

I employed Steven to do a loft ladder on the strength of this recommendation and I've found him to be totally and utterly unreliable.

On the first day he was late for the job, has taken a chunk of the plaster out of my ceiling, come round to finish the job but managed to leave halfway through for the second time so I have had no loft hatch for two weeks now. Plus he has subsequently let me down on at least four occasions where I've waited in for him and he hasn't turned up. Today he didn't even bother to call or text to tell me.

I just feel really stupid for being so trusting and accommodating. And for paying him in full before he finished the job. Lesson learned for next time.

Unfortunately, recommendations on here can be misleading.

Sometimes they just don't "feel right", even if the people making the recommendations have made a few other posts on here apart from those bigging up the tradespeople concerned.

Don't feel stupid. Being trusting and accommodating are good things.

I've been badly stung as well in the past due to continually giving people the benefit of the doubt, but I'd still rather be a bit naive than be like the incompetent and unreliable people who let me down.

ETA: If you're cutting your losses, I highly recommend Graham (contact details in my previous post). He only does lofts.

You are welcome to come and see what he did for me - installing a loft ladder and new hatch. He was reliable, helpful, efficient and very reasonably priced. He arrived slightly late and phoned me well in advance to let me know that he was running a bit late, and explained why.

I'd have no hesitation in using him again.

You can click on my name and see that I've posted on many other topics than loft ladders :)

    • If a food outlet has a mouse problem then it's likely to stay there until the outlet runs out of food, unless it's adjacent to other food outlets. Why would the mice move? And mice can be dealt with. If you are prepared to pay for it. Which, with some proprieters, is a very big if. I have no evidence that the problem has reoccured in its new inception, although obviously good owners keep the focus on good hygiene. You win the battle but the war continues.
