  1. We've been seeing Fabiano da Silva on Barry Road. He's a lovely guy and also practises at the OCC (Osteopathic Centre for Children) He's really experienced with babies and has been great for my one-year-old who has been seeing him since birth (he has a brain injury and cerebral palsy so needs ongoing treatments)
  2. I employed Steven to do a loft ladder on the strength of this recommendation and I've found him to be totally and utterly unreliable. On the first day he was late for the job, has taken a chunk of the plaster out of my ceiling, come round to finish the job but managed to leave halfway through for the second time so I have had no loft hatch for two weeks now. Plus he has subsequently let me down on at least four occasions where I've waited in for him and he hasn't turned up. Today he didn't even bother to call or text to tell me. I just feel really stupid for being so trusting and accommodating. And for paying him in full before he finished the job. Lesson learned for next time.
  3. Thanks midivydale, that's really kind but it needs to be the Pepti. I managed to get a tin from Kings so that will buy us a few more days until I can get it prescribed
  4. Bit of a random one but is anyone's LO on a hypoallergenic formula at the moment? We've been having lots of issues with our baby's digestion (among other health problems he has) and our community dietitian gave us a trial of Pepti Junior, which seemed to work well and solve the problems. However, I needed to let her know to ask the GP to prescribe it for us and she seems to have disappeared! I left messages on thurs and fri for her but never received a call back. Now it's too late and we've run out of the formula, and it's the weekend so no idea where to get it from (apart from trying the hospitals). We tried him back on Hipp Organic but he threw it back up and he seems to have a problem with cow's milk so I don't really want to give it to him. I was wondering whether anyone locally had Pepti Junior and would be willing to lend us a tin until we can sort a prescription next week? Bit of a long shot but I thought it was worth asking Thanks
  5. After having a brain injury at birth, baby is seeing Fabiano da Silva on Barry Road. He's lovely. Really experienced, also practises at the OCC and is very used to neonatal treatments. My little one is really improving (feeding better, more settled etc) under Fabiano's care so I would highly recommend him.
  6. Just to add another vote for John Powers. He came and fixed my toilet - a small job but much needed! He was reasonably priced, a really nice friendly guy and very helpful. He was running a bit late but texted in plenty of time to warn me, plus was finished quickly and didn't leave a mess. Would definitely use him again
  7. I've just moved away from Hillcourt as our landlords sold our flat and sadly we couldn't afford to buy it. We loved it there. It's a great street on which I always felt safe and all the neighbours seemed really nice (we lived just off the middle of the street, a little more towards Underhill Road). No problems with noise or antisocial behaviour. It can feel a little quiet and out of the way late at night but actually this is a good thing as its tucked-away nature meant that few people knew it was there and you didn't get any dodgy characters hanging out. That said, I once had to tell off some teenagers for hiding weed in my front garden (in the daytime) but hopefully the rollicking scuppered their amateur drug-dealing. Well, probably not but I hope it helped put them off. The only issue we sometimes had was the water pressure can be quite rubbish in the morning (between 7am and 8am especially), so if you're showering at that time you may need to be prepared to do so under a dribble. I second the shout out for Homemade on Barry Road and the cluster of shops on Forest Hill Rd. You're really well placed for both Dulwich and Peckham Rye parks there and buses to Peckham Rye for the station (much more useful than ED), plus if you don't have a car the P13 will take you to Sainsbury's and back which is really handy.
  8. If you're after a middle-ground sort of route that avoids busy Southampton Way, I recommend going through the housing estates. Here's a map: http://g.co/maps/8k2vd At the bottom of Lyndhurst Way, head straight across to go down Kelly Avenue. (the road has a barrier but space for cycles down each side). Turn left at the bottom on to Commercial Way, then hang the (third I think) right into Chandler Way. Again there are some bollards on the road's entrance but not a problem for bikes. Then it's straight down to St George's Way, turn left and then right at the lights. Not as fast as just going down Southampton Way, but it's much quieter which, to me, is more pleasant. You can get a clear run without dodging buses and weaving round traffic jams (though it does get busy along St George's Way waiting for the lights)
  9. Also a problem on Hillcourt Road (the end of Goodrich, nr Dunstans and Underhill). It's not so bad for me as I don't start work till 10am, so shower at about 8am. But if I need to get up earlier the shower alternates between freezing and scalding. Fun times

Ah well. Glad to hear there are some Glade types and dubsteppers in leafy ED My boyfriend works for the festival, so right now it's the calm before the festival-season storm, kicking off with Glastonbury Anyway, sorry. Totally off topic. I would suggest a Big Lunch at Glade, although I don't think a great deal of eating goes on there Not of food anyway...

  12. MrBen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- Not a hint of mud. The papers made a lot about a some shower on Thursday night but it was nothing. Well, you def went at the right time then MrBen. It was mud and rain central on Thursday night (the night I had most sleep thank God) and Friday daytime. Was so good to see the sun and be able to sit on the ground again. Hallelujah!
  13. You should check out Corsica Studios at Elphant - they have some great nights on
  14. Although there is a great-looking night on there on Friday... (Ok, confession time - my boy is helping to run it) Bass Weight I think management has changed there recently (possibly) so maybe things will improve? I've never been and so am interested to check it out on Friday. Jamm in Brixton often has techno or some more hardcore electronic music. But that can be hit and miss too... Hope this helps
  15. I have no love or hatred for Dr Boo but will say thins: piling up things by the cash register can be a very US customer service trick so that you don't have to carry items around the shop. Not only does this make you more comfortable, you are also free to browse, and therefore buy, more. (And I expect it doesn't do harm when protecting stock, but suspect this is possibly a secondary thing?)
  16. Mr Em got caught by the fluoro jacket man - only for ?5 but that's not the point. The man offered to leave his keys and phone as "security" - but of course banking on the boy saying no (which he obvs did). I think he so used to working at festivals that he trusts everyone in a high-vis vest!
  17. You obviously had more than a whiff of teenage rebellion about you... We once had a school assembly all about drugs, all very clever, to do with 'samples' that turned out to be things like mixed herbs and ginger cake. The moral seemed to be: if you;re going to be silly enough to buy drugs, at least make sure you're being sold the genuine article. Still not sure if that's a positive lesson or not?
  18. My dad is a very wise man and everything he told me as a child (most of which I wasn't ready to believe at the time of course) has turned out to be true. Of course now I'm trying to start off this post, my mind has gone blank for examples! Will come back to you on that one... What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
  19. Cheese sandwiches with salt and vinegar crisps in them Ugg boots
  20. Ah yes - I've never tried the 436, always go to Elephant and take the bakerloo Anyway, back on topic... I think the 176 is pretty good. I always find it regular (apart from waiting at Aldwych at night - the loneliest bus stop in the world?). Oh and the fact it blatantly drove past a few of us the other night because (I think) the driver was too busy paying attention to overtaking a car. Or he just couldn't be bothered to do a tedious thing like actually stop at a bus stop and let passengers on. Er, so maybe it's not so great after all...
  21. There are loads of key ED establishments I've never been in :-$ Green & Blue Franklins The Plough Chener Books Tandoori Nights The Irish Shop Mrs Robinson Moxons Any of the kids shops/maternity type places The drum Places I've only ever been in once: ED Deli - ?3.50 for a loaf of bread. Say no more... Dr Boo - too many free beauty products from work to buy any more The weird little basement shop under the Palmerston Blue Brick Cafe - Nero go there for breakfast. I thought it was good, suitably unponcy and the portions were decent Inside 72 - damn I felt cool Sea Cow I really want to go to the vintage shop on Upland Rd. Used to live round the corner so not sure why I never went in There's a gun shop Horsebox??
  22. I second all that - love Vietnamese. Much lighter and fresher than Chinese and will save me heading to Shoreditch to satisfy my cravings. Good luck!
