We went to the Alice Holt Forest for the first time last weekend:

Took approx 1.5 hours to get there. Very busy on arrival at the car park but once you're in the forest it's much quieter. Theres a cafe, a play area, also various installations for kids to climb on en route.

Would highly recommend.

Just to say we tried out route 12 Tonbridge to Penshurst and back yesterday - it was great! Lovely trails through woodland, fields and along the river. The children liked the ride, the playground at Tonbridge was fab too, and the heated lido at Tonbridge looks worth another trip.

We did the Cuckoo trail recently - about 14 miles in total but you can do bits of it.

We did north from Hailsham and just (I think) outside Hellingly there was a pub with a bouncy castle and small playground and food. Bits of it were a bit urban but as a first bike ride with a 4 year old and 7 year old, it was just about right.

Epsom downs, train to tattenham corner from east croydon, then under 5 mins walk, good for cycling, lots of routes online and a few places to eat, from tea bar and ice cream van near downs, good greasy spoon or fish and chips near the station to posh pub food at derby arms.

    • Hello! We are relocating abroad and so will be withdrawing our two children (ages 4 and 6) from St Dunstan’s College (Catford). If any family is considering enrolling children of a similar age, now would be an excellent opportunity—we’re required to pay full‑term fees unless the places are taken. Please get in touch if you’re interested or know someone who might be. Thank you!
    • Hi  I really thought I'd seen a more recent post on the forum about home education meet ups. I can't find it though. • Thanks for your reply. I’ve subscribed to Ancestry a few times in the past but felt I wasn’t using it enough to warrant keeping up the subscription.
    • Hi, I saw your post and just wanted to say that the incident you’re referring to did happen in the late 1980s at Dawson’s Heights. The person involved was named Carl Salawa, and he had just turned 18 years old at the time. Like you, I haven’t been able to find any news articles or official reports about it, If anyone remembers anything more about that time or incident, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. Thanks for sharing what you were told—it means a lot to know others remember.
