Barclays local is now at The Lordship Lane Doctor’s Surgery.

Such a weird place to run banking advice alongside medical professionals.

I got a text about them moving into the LL Surgery earlier this week. They're open by appointment from 10am-5pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Sessions can be booked online or via phone.

I suppose if Barclays reject you for a loan, you can at least book an appointment with the GP!

Brilliant idea. Not!! To bring healthy people seeking banking advice into the same place as sick and potentially infectious people seeking health care. I guess the rent is much cheaper than a proper bank...gotta keep up those profits...poor bankers!

Now I am not the one to whinge on this site (apart from the irrational thread on the Lounge which we know is a bit of a laff) but couldn't find anything on line - lots on the closed branch. So I went down - receptionists at the surgery very helpful. Up to the third floor, a gent popped out to tell me that I needed an appointment - how I said when you don't have any details on line.

I suppose after 22 year of using Google, and before that Altvista and Lycos, I'm not very good at usin the WWW (world wide web for anyone under 40).

They gave me a card but it has no contact details although there is a QR code. I'll share more later. And may complain to Barclays if I can be assed,

Oh it gets better, the QR code leads me to this: https://events.uk.barclays/local/

But on a search using my post code the nearest place is Mitcham at over 7 miles rather than Lordship lane at less than a mile.

The gent told me to go to my local branch, but with the queues I'm not going to Peckham. I tried Westmister a couple of weeks ago where I used to bank a few times a year pre Covid, but they had moved a couple of working days before.

Note to myself - get a life

It’s still showing LL Surgery for me. Put in postcode SE22 8JS and it comes up with LL, Peckham, Brixton etc.433FB9AE-F17A-4166-A397-5D747E85FC40.thumb.png.b274c25c596f8be11ce051bc3348ff62.png

Mitcham still showing up as the nearest Barclays Local, so it looks like the LL Surgery agreement fell through.

There's been fairly broad media coverage in the last few months of the development of 'banking hubs'. These are premises where shared counter services are provided by a group of banks, with back offices available for use by individual banks. https://www.ukfinance.org.uk/press/press-releases/pivotal-moment-banks-consumer-groups-post-office-and-link-join-forces-help-protect-cash-services

Link (might other facilitators be available?) even invite community requests for their set-up. https://www.link.co.uk/about/news/four-new-banking-hubs-confirmed-following-community-requests/.

Post Office has been doing some of this for some time

Most banks offer PO Counter services for basic banking, but the issue is some of the smaller post offices sometimes don't have enough cash in the float to do the transaction. This happened when there was the brief move of the Sub PO near The Plough moved into a convenience store opposite Dulwich Library. They eventually gave up the franchise with no replacement.

The other I've experience at East Dulwich PO is that they don't always have enough of the notes you want your cash paid in, so it's just easier to travel to another bank branch where they have enough cash in all demoniations.

Does this now mean, ED has no banks at all? As the Barclays has closed on LL, I assume the ATMS have gone too?

Yes, there are no banks in the whole of SE22 at all.

That stretch of LL has two free ATMs at the Co-op and the Post Office, while others at Payless, Lordship Food and Wine and Ronnie's on East Dulwich Grove charge.

Other free ATMs in SE22 include Barry's Food and Wine in Barry Road, Sainsbury's Local by The Plough, Tesco Express on ED Road, Sainsbury's DKH and the PO in Forest Hill Road.

    • Where did I say he did a good job? Yup and Corbyn was very close to Len McCluskey and funded by Unite wasn't he...they're all as bad as each other... Labour have to purge their party of the far-left - they're a disaster. Allan Johnson summed it up so well on election night in 2019....
    • Thank you for the detailed advise @trinidad It is definitely damage we are concerned about. I don’t think Evri would agree to pay the bill to fix our gate or letter box if they were to be damaged as a result of their delivery drivers helper. Our doorbell can be heard from outside when rung so we don’t quite believe the aggressive simultaneous door/letter box banging is necessary. It can be quite a shock it is done very aggressively.  I’ll definitely action the steps you’ve kindly provided along with a phone call tomorrow. I do sympathise with the role drivers have and how busy they are, which is why we tried communicating directly with her but sadly we haven’t succeeded
    • What outcome would you like? Disciplinary action? Not to have the driver back? Retraining? I know there is alot of pressure on drivers to deliver within a set day. if he slams the gate, is it evidence he is causing damage, or is the noise a irritant to yourself? You could put a sign up or buy a signing asking to close the gate gentle???? can you hear the door bell from the door? he might be ringing, not hearing and therefore knocking. In trhe notes section of the be livery page, there is a note section, although there is not 100 per cent these notes would be read as these drivers are constantly rushing.  I did a google search for you, i found this and you can try the envri website Contact Us | Evri   To complain to Evri, you can follow these steps: Contact Customer Service: Call Evri's customer service at 0330 808 5456 for assistance with your complaint.    1 Write a Letter: Address your complaint to Capitol House, 1 Capitol Close, Morley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS27 0WH.    1 Use the Official Website: Visit the Evri complaints page on their official website for detailed instructions on how to submit a complaint.    2 Email or Call for Specific Issues: For issues like missing or damaged parcels, you can email or call 0800 988 8888, which is free to call.    1 These methods will help you effectively communicate your concerns to Evri.   My driver is called anthony, he is brilliant to be honest. I cant fault him.
    • When I have more time and energy, I will look up the actual number of votes cast for each party in that election, rather than the number of seats won. I'm interested to see that you apparently  think that  Boris Johnson did a good job of "leading the country through Covid." Is your memory really that short? I won't stoop to calling Johnson and his cronies names in the way that you seem to think is appropriate for left wing politicians. At least the left wing politicians have some semblance of morals and a concern for people who aren't in some over privileged inner circle and/or raking in money for themselves on the back of an epidemic. I'm not going to open a can of worms on here  by commenting on the disgraceful so called "purge".
