Does anyone know how to fix a compact digital camera with the lens stuck out? I've tried everything I could find on the internet but the lens won't move and switching the camera on/off makes no difference.

This has now happened with two cameras and the common factor seems to be the camera case. I've now discovered that you shouldn't put this type of camera in a case because tiny fibres can get into the lens and damage it.

Any advice welcome as I currently have two useless cameras!

Best thing to do would be to turn off the camera and replace the batteries while also extracting the memory card, once memory card is in place and batteries are in wait 1-2 minutes and close battery cover. restart the camera

if that doesnt work try gently twisting the lens as you turn it on until you hear a click, sometimes this doesnt always work.

another method is to put the camera face down and have the lens pointed towards the ceiling, while turning opn the camera hold the shutter button, this should be putting th ecamera into auto focus causing it to switch gears which should lock the lens back in place and have it working properly.

I had an Ixus 700 with this - including the 'Lens Error'. I tried everything but nothing worked. It is a common issue that, unless you are in guarantee, the manufacturer won't touch you. You might be lucky with the internet tips, but I think it is new camera time.

This problem can be the result of a 'Stuck' Shutter.

The lens will not retract until the shutter closes.

Try switching modes a see if you are able to take another pic which may release the shutter.

Would seem a common prob. and like you say many Internet Suggestions seem to be fruitless.

You need to find a camera repair facility but suspect it will be nearly as cheap to buy a new camera.
