A 29-year-old man was stabbed to death in a South London park last night (Friday, December 30). The victim was killed in Peckham Rye Park, with police and an ambulance called to the scene at 8.24pm.

Despite paramedics' best efforts, he died at the scene shortly after 9pm. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

We also heard the helicopter last night. On Thompson Road, a man was being chased by armed police. He was dropped to the floor and kept there with 1 armed police officer. All the blacked out police cars left in a rush to go somewhere else. I don't know how long they were alone there together but must have been about an hour, if not longer. Was quite scary
The foot chase started at the lordship lane end of landells road. We heard a commotion then an armed officer running down the road, shouting to stop and get down. Unsure how many people they were chasing. A car had been boxed in by 3 marked and unmarked police cars right by the launderette. That stayed there with an officer for about 2 hours.

The peace vigil mentioned above for Kalabe Legesse is being organised by St Antony & St Silas and led by the vicar as the common/park is in the parish. I did think the helicopter might be linked to the Kingswood Estate stabbing last night?

https://southwarknews.co.uk/news/crime/update-twelve-people-arrested-over-kingswood-estate-stabbing/

As a follow up to this:

"Four men have been jailed for a knife attack in Dulwich which left the [18 yo] victim with over 60 stab wounds...South Londoners Tashan Bailey-Brown, 23, Denzel Ealmeida, 22, Darren Soyemi, 25, and Kevaniel Perkins-Robinson, 21, were jailed for a total of 117 years for attempted murder."

Sounds like amazing work by London Ambulance Service to keep this kid alive, and police and prosectors for a quick arrest and successful prosecution. Also worth acknowledging journalist Herbie Russell pf the Southwark News for covering the beginning and end of the story. But overall there is nothing to celebrate here.

I second that MRSR, what a waste of a young life yet again due to knife crime and people thinking it's ok to stab somone just for a phone,  the sentences they received still not long enough , the young mans family have life sentences .

"officers were able to trawl CCTV to retrace the suspects to their shared home. Both were arrested on suspicion of murder on January 19, 2023."

"During a search of Nyran Thomas's home and his nan's bedroom, they found a sheathed black handled hunting knife wrapped in a Black puffer jacket. Forensics later confirmed traces of Kalabe's blood inside the sheath of the murder weapon. Both attackers were charged on January 21, 2023 and were remanded into custody."

We hear so many stories about police not dealing with crimes quickly enough or at all, so it's nice to read they've done a really good job finding the suspects and all the evidence needed to charge them in just a few days.

    • Sorry but I think it's best if people just check things for themselves when they buy things. In three shops/restaurants (from some years back) I just avoid the places concerned, as in all three  cases I was pretty sure it wasn't a genuine mistake, and in one place  it happened more than once and usually late at night.
    • Sorry Sue - me again. This has been on my mind all day, it's a big bug bear of mine. If you don't mind - please can you private message me some of these shops so I can cross reference / add to my AVOID list.  Thanks in advance. Let's make sure this doesn't happen this Christmas, particularly as we head into sales season. Even more problematic in my experience.
    • Pity you didn't quote what you are referring to, Mal. I didn't see the previous post, and my mind is boggling 😮
    • The Cherry Tree was absolutely excellent for a while when a youngish couple ran it and brought in a really good chef. It was them who renamed it The Cherry Tree. They were really turning it around. The chef did fantastic Scotch eggs, and one of the best roasts I've ever had. If memory serves the then owner,  for some reason known only to himself, took a dislike to them and what they were doing and sacked them all. And yes we weren't expecting a top class  meal last Christmas, and we left it too late to book anywhere else, but we weren't expecting it for a hundred pounds EACH to be quite as terrible as it was. Stupid us. Not sure why you are confused by my post, Jazzer? Did I misremember? Now it's got even more confusing because my posts have been merged and your confused emoji is shown at the bottom of the second one instead of the first 🤣
