Southwark are going for the full 4.99% increase this year plus the Mayor has increased his share which is going to add to the cost of living for everyone.

Thank the stars we aren't in Croydon who got rewarded with a 15% increase for going bankrupt. Don't give our councillors any ideas ๐Ÿ˜‰

Indeed, Croydon went for setting up their own building business to build homes which made them go into the red.

It's still a disaster in Croydon where Labour despite bankrupting the council got back in, but the newly elected Mayor is a Tory, so nothing is happening.

For balance, the Conservatives in Thurrock seem to have crashed theh finances - the rise there is 10%, same as Labour controlled Slough.

There's going to have to be a reality check on local government ambitions across the board, I suspect. All the latest on Southwark's draft budget here https://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/mgAi.aspx?ID=66539#mgDocuments

    • Apologies on the tardy reply, but thank you everyone for your responses and suggestions! Unfortunately I couldn't attend the recent EDF drinks because of work (I know right). But will absolutely keep eyes peeled for the next one and try and come down!ย
    • Because of the weather which delayed completion with roofer only being able to work certain days, it was up from November - end of January. Went slightly higher than gutters (we also had guttering replaced).
    • It's tough being a courier and the pay which is largely based on the number they deliver is miserable. Hence the staff turnover is high. EFRI was previously branded as HERMES but they had to create a new brand name because of poor performance. We get regular courier deliveries and EVRI are by far the worst. They just drop the parcel at the front door - often without ringing the bell. But worst is when they deliver to the equivalent door number on LL instead of ours on EDG. Best are ParcelForce, DHL and DPD by a wide margin.
    • I know the couple you mean, and she has always been friendly and smiley when delivering to me, but obviously in a hurry, for all the reasons outlined in the thread. My gate is always open, however (unless someone coming to the house closes it when they leave). I can't see the point of gates that have to be opened and shut again every time someone comes to the house. It just seems a waste of time, and it's annoying if you are carrying stuff. And a closed gateย  conveys a sort of "my house is my fortress" feel. To me, anyway.
