Moving to ED

Hello,

My boyfriend and I are thinking about moving to East Dulwich in the autumn, I was wondering whereabouts would be a good place to start looking. I need to be close to a train station that gets me to East Croydon and he needs to get onto the Thameslink trains (but neither of us mind changing trains if needs be).

Any advice would be much appreciated!

I worked in Croydon for a (short) while, and it was a pain in the ass getting there. There is a direct train, but they're not frequent and the last one in the evening was stupidly early. However, there is a bus route which goes along Peckham Rye, Barry Road, etc, which is OK as long as you don't mind a fairly lengthy journey.

On the other hand, it's about a 25 min drive, or I imagine about a 30 min cycle.

It's probably quicker cycling than driving!

You'd be best looking at Herne Hill/North Dulwich than E Dul I'd say. HH for the Thameslink trains, HH or N Dul for trains to Tulse Hill or Norwood or Streatham where you can easily change for a Croydon East train. Direct trains from W Croydon to North Dul station.

Hmmm, me cycling is prob not the best plan!

Looking at the trains from ED they'd be ok for me, just a question of whether there is anywhere nice that is walkable to there and say Herne Hill for the Thameslink.

Peckham Rye has Thamslink trains (Trains to Victoria, Blackfriars, London Bridge). You're best living somewhere around The Gardens area, as you'll be equidistant from both ED and PR stations. It's 5mins on a bus to PR station from The Gardens and only 5min walk to Lordship Lane.

Or your fella can change at tulse hill from east dulwich, its not a long wait.

Herne hill is about a 15-20 minute walk (well, 45 minutes if you're in the upper east side) but the number 37 bus is better these days than it used to be.
