Both our dogs hated Frontline and would cringe at the sight of the packet so we switched to a garlic spray. Worked well and they rarely had fleas. We bought it in a pet shop in Walworth Rd, now long gone. I think you can make your own and use a small gaden spray.

Please recommend what has worked well for your dogs and cats.

We’ve tried Frontline and Advantage and don’t find that they work.

We also use a spray in the house and clean frequently.

Dreading this year if we can’t find a solution

For dogs, try the spray that Waggy Wagon, a local groomer, sells.  I don’t know know if it’s suitable for cats as some essential oils are poisonous to cats.  Cat fleas are an absolute nightmare.

We've started using diatomaceous earth (food grade) for cat fleas. There are a few videos online on how to do this. We made a little face covering for our cats, so they didn't inhale too much.

It's too early to know if it's been a success but we wanted an alternative to the Advantage/Frontline because of the problems associated with it as a pollutant.

One cat didn't mind the application, the other was a bit resistant but it wasn't too hard to get it on.

There is also a tick spray made by Chambers and Co.  It contains rose geranium oil and sulphur.  It’s available on eBay.  Price is £10.  Tick season is upon us.

The frontline Plus stops the eggs hatching in your home, not sure if that was the one you tried, as there is a basic frontline.   I only found it the best for my cat.  Others didn't work.

    • I don't know how it works now but my late parents had little money when they were retired (just state pension and they rented their flat) and they used to take their cat to the Blue Cross (In Victoria if I remember correctly) where treatment was free for those who could'nt afford a private vet. I sincerely hope similar is available still because for many elderly their pet is their main source of comfort and company.
    • In a couple of places locally, I have come across this. I am fairly sure that they attempt to do the bill in their head. If you just say , “no, I think it’s x” they start again and get to an agreeable number, or find a calculator. I don’t think it’s a malicious attempt to swindle people. Just not great arithmetic.
    • There are excellent charities like the Greenwich Wildlife Network who will help if you report any concerns with local wildlife. Foxes are wonderful creatures who had been forced into our town and cities and are just doing their best to survive, we should take care of them when we can.
    • Like I thought… prob like that for most of the day.. especially after people had walked their dogs, with friends, relatives  kids…
