Save the frogs

We have a pond in the garden which I intend to fill and turf over for (human) safety reasons.

In doing so I would be responsible for depriving some frogs, and probably a few other species, of their habitat. I have been to the London Wildlife Garden in Marsden Road to seek their advice and the good people there told me that this is the worst time of year to do it.

The frogs can't just be transferred to another pond because the likelyhood is a risk of transference of disease.

The options I'm left with are to wait until winter or to give the frogs a new home in a new pond.

Bit of a long shot, I know;

Has anyone recently installed a pond or intend to do so?

Anyone (know) a professional gardener/landscaper who might have a suitable project on the go?

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Can't you put a metal grid over the pond? That will stop people falling in.

Sorry i don't have any garden in my house so can't help it out.

Depending on the size of the pond, another option would be to plant the pond with aquatic plants, to a depth and density so as to effectively make it a bog garden rather than an actual pond. This would still leave a small amount of free water for frogs etc.

Don't kill the wildlife! What with the bees dying, the council commissioning tree butchery, certain residents demanding tree butchery for no good reason, and the long winter they'll be nothing left. Do the right thing.

We have a frog pond and have had wire over it for a number of years. It's rigid with approx one inch squares so frogs can get in and out put also acted as a safety barrier for our grandchildren. the youngest can spend hours just sitting there watching the frogs.
